So I was at the limit of scooters I was allowed to have at the house (4), but there are 2 scooters that were on a list of scooters I was allowed to buy. If I was to come across a CY50 Jog in black/purple or white/purple, or if I found a purple Elite S/SR my wife gave me a green light. To be honest, probably more of a yellow light . Most of my browsing for scoots is on FB Marketplace, but one night I decided to check 'ol craigslist. I came across a mint 96 Honda Elite SR in my favorite color. It was late, so I decided to wait and call the guy in the morning. At 9am, I gave him a ring. It was still available! I asked my boss if I could take a half day. At 11am I left work in Atlanta and drove 3 hours to a small town outside of Asheville to grab it. Come to find out, I just so happened to be the first buyer to call him, and his phone had been ringing off the hook ever since.

I tried to turn the scooter over when I went to see it, but it started to bind up. The other Elite I have had a crank case full of oil from worn out oil pump seals. So rather than keep trying and shearing the kickstart mushroom gear, I trusted the crankcase was full of something and decided I could pull it and clear the crankcase at home. Turns out it was full of gas. The gas tank was a bit rotted and rusty. The petcock had failed and fuel was running down the vacuum line and filling the crankcase. The plan was to get it running and leave it stock.

CVT all bolted together. Now I'm just waiting on the Hondabond to cure before I do a leakdown test. Then on the bike it goes and the tuning begins.

FyI I've been told that cover on the air filter is EXTREMELY restrictive... but damn that build looks good! I'm glad the reed mod could work out too 👍

I'm glad the reed mod could work out too 👍 I'm going to play around with it on vs off to see if it makes much of a difference. In my head, it seems like it would be better to have it on if I get caught in the rain. The Elite is expected to take care of the majority of the commuting responsibilities, so it's bound to happen. Me too! It's mind boggling that the options are pretty much limited from junk to $150 vforce without much in between. The cost to replace reeds on a vforce block could buy me a whole new Malossi setup.

What is the purpose of running a jog reed cage? Stage 6 makes reeds and reed valves for Dio...

What is the purpose of running a jog reed cage? Stage 6 makes reeds and reed valves for Dio... I have less money in this setup than Stage6, and I don't have to deal with Stage6's spotty availability. Mostly, I just felt like it, and I have high confidence in the Malossi reeds I have used in Minarelli builds.

It's alive! I didn't have time to mess with any tuning tonight, but it starts up easy and runs well. I was able to take it down the street and back, and it sure wants to lift the front end. I'm going to try and get the 16/42 gears I have for it installed before the end of the week and that should calm that down a bit.

Yesterday I got my trailtech CHT gauge on the bike. I got the TWH 16/42 gears installed. The braided PVC pipe I used for a spigot adapter was leaky and I used some hondabond on it hoping it would seal well enough, but after 15 minutes of riding, the seal kinda broke. I ran down to the parts store to find a radiator hose the right size to replace it with.
I figured I was starting out pretty rich with my jetting based off of what I've seen similar setups running. The carb comes with 40 pilot 114 main. I got the pilot down to a 34 and it runs well, and I decided to leave the 114 in to start tuning now that I have the temp gauge on. Other Polini Sport guys looks to be running between 100 and 108. On flat ground I'm getting to ~320*, but on longer hills I'm getting to 340 relatively quickly and let off before it gets any higher. I'm feeling most of the power 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and don't gain anything except for intake noise at full throttle so I believe I'm still rich. I'm going to check the plug later today for some visual cues on this, and I may drop the main jet down just to see what happens to my temps anyways.
With the new radiator hose spigot, I had just assumed that my air leak woes were solved as I continued to test yesterday, but just for peace of mind I set my leakdown test up this morning. 10 minutes in and pressure hadn't even dropped slightly. I still feel like my temps are on the high side with the 114, but now I can rule out air leaks.
Acceleration hasn't changed much with the 16/42 gears, but now the needle climbs past 35, then F, then E, and then just disappears. It's definitely fast enough to get me where I'm going on my commutes. My speedo app just randomly doesn't work anymore, so I'll have to download something different this afternoon and get actual speeds from this thing.
