The amount of air that comes out is not alot per revouloution of the crank it is about the size of a dixie cup pushed through a straw. So she should feel a sharp puff. I just reached down and felt the end of the muffler and I’m feeling nothing while I’m cranking the engine over. I have the new air filter in as well. Just found out this have the carb rebuilt on it last year so no wonder it was so clean.

I just pulled my reed valve assembly and tested it with carb cleaner. It’s leaking through the reeds pretty good. So there’s one thing that’s wrong.

Can you see light through them?

Can you see light through them? I just held it up to the afternoon sky away from the sun and I couldn’t, I suppose I should have tried a brighter light.

Put a flash light behind, or a lamp. If you can't see light they are ok. If you see a tiny bit round the edges, flip the reeds round.

Once I held it up to a lamp there was some light coming through around the edges. I’ve flipped one side around and now there’s a pretty big gap. I think I’ll have to replace it, it’s probably worn out.

The reed valve is looking like it’s bad. I will try that once I get a new reed valve in though. Unless you think it would start for a little while even with a leaky reed valve.

Worth trying if you get bored though.

Hi there! I also had an issue regarding starting my 2008 Zuma when I was working on it nearly a year ago. Started by checking a lot of the things you did, but nothing worked as well. I believe out of desperation, I ended up checking the spark plugs again. If I remember correctly, the spark plug wouldn't spark... so I ended up messing around with the spark plug wiring. Ended up removing and putting back the relay and somehow that made things spark/work again. You might want to try and see if your spark plug sparks. To do so, place the metal piece of the plug onto a body frame, connected to the plug wire. Afterwards, kick start the engine over and watch for sparks across the gap. Granted, I did take apart my scooter (but didn't mess around too much with the electrical system), so it may have just been an issue with my rebuild. Lastly, with the reeds, I believe that my scooter was able to run with a gap that large on one side — based on a hard to see picture that I took. The picture I attach here shows what the reeds looked like before I installed new ones for putting in a new engine. The scooter was previously running with those old reeds. Here is a video I recorded of testing the spark plug: Link
Hopefully this could help some bit. Best of luck!

So I have replaced the reed valve cage with new reeds installed, no start. I then tried a new ignition coil, same thing no start. I have also removed the exhaust and tried to start it with no luck. I did notice some liquid dropping from the exhaust port onto the ground when I was trying to start it - I'm assuming that is fuel mixture. The new ignition coil spark plug cap didn't quite fit the spark plug either, so I will order an OEM coil just to rule that out. The last thing I know to do is to replace the carb, however I found out a few days ago that the carb that's on it now was rebuilt a few months ago, which explains how clean it is. I'm running out of ideas, and I really don't want to drop the $700 it will take to get this thing fixed.

If the spark plug cap is too log on your aftermarket one its just soft plastic . I just ground it own by rubbing across cement floor .
On your pilot jet are you set at 2 turns out on the air screw . That is a good baseline setting while tuning .
Can you take video of you trying to turn it over .
