Hi I have a 97 liquid cooled 50 speed fight. It's standard apart from a gianelli exhaust and she goes well.
Until about 2 weeks ago when I noticed an oily mess on my floor. So the only symptoms are twice it hasn't wanted to start as the plug comes up so I have to heat it up then it rides fine again.
But the issue is the oil leak which appears to be oil blowing in to the air filter then leaking out the air box. There's other oil on the carb, a bit everywhere but certainly the biggest mess appears to be coming from the air box.
Any suggestions welcome please thank you

It could be the reed valve is old and not sealing itself closed. Allowing fuel past into the air box. The carb might just need a clean.

I'll try the reed valve tomorrow to see if it looks like it is sticking or damaged. The carb is fairly new but not sure what bit I'd clean

If it's on the carb. Perhaps one of the connections, most likely to the reed valve or air box are not tight, or sealing.

Running the standard oil pump. Although recently replaced with one from racing planet.

I've had to order a new reed valve so will change as a matter of course.
Carb is only a few months old so hopefully not to dirty.
Out of interest why would the oil pump or pre mix have an effect?
Thank you

Oil pump can leak past the pump, seals fail and oil gets into carb and can then leak out from the airbox. I would check oil pump if it is leaking enough oil to pool on the floor under the bike.

Update Replaced the reed but no change. Still leaking. Oil pump looked to be ok in situ.
Could the oil pump be faulty and letting gravity pull the oil all the way to the carb?

That's a possibility. I've had it before. Can you post a picture up so it's clear what you are talking about?

I have reset the mixture screw and touch wood it's not leaked. Maybe it'd worked it's way a little loose.... I'll keep an eye.

Has oil out of the exhaust now. Could explain the large amount of smoke for the first start and ride.
Maybe the oil pump is faulty?

It could be. The vertical engine is prone to filling up if there is a leak from carb, or oil pump. Is it thick oil, or could it be mixed with petrol from a leaking carb?

It's think with red tinge, definitely the red 2 stroke from the carb. The exhaust side looks a black mess but wouldn't say it was thick.
I have another carb to try and a new piston I could put in to rule out the rings
