Went out and after about 20 kicks it fired up. Didn't idle at first. Let it warm up and got someone to tail me with the truck just in case. Ran great. I didn't get it WOT for a long time though, because the truck wouldn't keep up. :dunno:

Been a long time since I've touched this scoot, so instead of doing something useful... like draining the old gas, replacing the filter, etc... I swapped the front wheel/tire out. I've been working on converting the Venus back to a 49cc with the stock front suspension, so the skinny front wheel/tire was just sitting around. Thought it may look cool on T1. Just took a little playing with spacing to get it right. I like the look and it's definitely lighter. Not sure how I'll like the handling, but I can always go back to the old wheel/tire. I'm considering trying the 13.55:1 final drive gears (10.13:1 now). It'll prob max out pretty quick. Could be fun around town... but then I never take it into town. I've rode it solely on open roads in the last couple of years because it's kind of obnoxious. Need to check the engine over. All of my scoots need work right now, so I'm not sure what will get done to what.

I think it would look even better lowered more in the front, but being heavy I like to have some travel left there.

I like the looks it gives. How durable are the spoke rims verses the alloy or steel rims? Will they hold up to the speeds they are likely to encounter with you? LoL Just keep riding, Scott

It was on the Venus at 60MPH. I think it's fine. I'd worry more about potholes or coming down hard if it picks the front up. I don't think it'll be that fast anyway. I'm gonna be sticking the 13.55 gears in soon.
Drained the old gas out today. It should be a light blue from the premix, instead it was a dark green color. Fuel filter broke very easily when I was just trying to pull a hose off. Also found that a hose was cracked. I thought it was seeping from a float problem, because I was seeing very small amounts of gas/oil on the floor and the carb was oily. Looks like it may have just been seeping down the line and over the carb.

I took the top end apart this morning. The piston was scuffed at 4 corners from seizing and the locator for the rings fell out. The cylinder doesn't show any signs of damage, other than the same scuffing I see elsewhere, in the area that the pin is in. I ordered a 54mm Hoca piston a couple of days ago in case I needed it, and I will. Swapped over to the deep final drive gears and then I got rid of the starter. I only left it in place to block the hole in the case so the tire didn't throw stuff in there. Made a plate out of a piece of leftover aluminum that was just barely big enough. Not pretty, but it does the job and the studs sticking out give me an easy place to mount the ground cable without it being on the CVT cover bolts.

Glad you found that loose pin before it got free!Ive found them imbedded in the top of the piston crown before,,

The piston came in yesterday. I had planned on doing a touch more work to the cylinder to get a few degrees of duration and maybe push the revs just a tad higher. I didn't have any base gaskets around and I had been using only a thin spacer and a base gasket on each side. I was feeling far too lazy after the other stuff I did today, so I looked through the spacers I had made up for different setups. I had one that looked slightly thicker than the old spacer and gaskets combined, so I set up the degree wheel and checked it out. The piston is about as even as it can get with the bottom of the exhaust port and durations went up to 200 exhaust/137 transfer. They were at 196/136. Worth a shot anyway.
I cleaned off the mating surfaces, checked that the spacer/cases/cylinder matched up, and did a quick pass with the ball hone. Haven't started assembling anything yet. The piston isn't coming up as high in the bore, and I already was running without a head gasket. Not sure if I'll take it apart and calculate the compression or just stick it together and see how it does.

Heck, throw it together and see how it does..It may be the magic combination that 2T tuners have dreamed of for years!! Lower compression will only hurt the bottom end,the head can be step cut if needed to get the proper squish..The 137 degree transfer has me a bit worried, but hey,try it!!!

Where do you think I should go with xfer duration John?
Not sure what RPM I'll see. It stuck at basically 10,000RPM with the OR. With the other gears I couldn't pull them much past 70MPH, so I never saw overrev. When I ran the Hoca vari and stock(modded) rear pulley I pulled to 12,000RPM regularly. I'm assuming I'll push past the CVT tuned RPM with these deep gears, but I dunno.

Try it! Shoudnt be too "pipy" with the ex duration up there too?.
