Hi all, I bought a 1997 Jog a few days ago. I had been looking for a jog for a long time. I wanted one because several years ago I had a 98 jog that i sold to a local kid because I was barely using it. Since then I have had many Chinese scooters none of which performed as well as my old stock jog. Now I have a great performing stock jog again and I am modifying it to perform to it's maximum potential without upgrading the top end. I will someday but not yet. I am new to modding scooters but have done all my own mechanic work for many years. I am a big guy weighing in at 220 and I don't want to go on a diet to get faster.
I posted on 2 other forums and waiting for an answer there was like waiting for a skinny girl to want a fat guy. Anyway one of the users here was kind enough to let me know about this helpful forum.
I have already ordered several parts out of desperation because I wasn't getting any answers elsewhere.
First I ordered a pipe and a new pair of Kenda 3.50-10 tires. Then I was thinking transmission so I pulled the cvt case off to have a look. I found the stock rollers that were supposed to be 6.5g were all the way worn out and only weighed 5g
There is no restriction washer on the boss and there is a spacer on the outside end of the boss. So that's taken care of. I also noticed that one of my clutch springs (there's 2) was broken and laying inside the cvt case.
It's amazing because it rode and drove fine quick accel and 40-42 top speed on flat road. I could feel that something wasn't exactly right with the tranny because at 35mph wot I could feel something happen. I called it overdrive because all of a sudden you would feel what felt like it changing gears then it would pull hard to top speed.
My belt a stock yamaha belt was in nasty shape. nicks and tears.
So I ordered 7g, and 5g rollers that way I can try 7 and 5 and if I need 6g I can mix them up. I also ordered the 3 plastic sliders as they were worn pretty good too.
I also ordered 1000 rpm clutch springs. and then I started hunting a kevlar belt. The problem with my belt hunt was that Yamaha doesn't make a kevlar belt that cross referenced with the stock size so I was on my own.
I found many sellers on thEbay claiming they had a belt for the cy50 jog but the belts drastically range in size from 732mm long to 792mm long.
From what I have found the stock belt translates to 792x16.5x28
So I ordered a few different size belts to experiment with. I still would like to know the correct kevlar belt though?
Upon further diagnostics I noticed the backing plate teeth that fit in the splines on the shaft were a bit worn so I decided then to order a race variatior. It has an improved ramp design and a modified back plate. The problem with that is the seller doesn't say what roller size it takes so I figured I better order some larger 16x13 rollers in case it takes bigger ones like most racing variators. Just in case. Stock size is 15x12 6.5g by the way.
I know I will need to up the jet size with the new pipe. Does anyone know what the stock jet size is?
I also ordered an aftermarket racing cdi and am thinking about a better coil. I ordered the BR7HIX Iridium plug too.
A couple days after I got it I decided to drain the oil injection tank to put synthetic 2t oil in it and found the previous owner had been using straight motor oil. Thing still ran fine either way though.
I know this post is long and probably annoying but I am just trying to sum it all up for you so you guys know where I am at and hopefully you can jump in and offer some good advice.
Looking forward to it. many Thanks!!
