I hear ya on the money part. You might be able to reuse your cylinder ans juat get a hoca piston for it? Nah, cylinder is toast! Pictures don't really show the depth of the gouge very well.

I've heard stories before that the ring pin (due to extremely hot and soft piston)got pushed in. It sometimes happens. I used to do an internship at VHM (from the golden billet cylinderhead) they also make pistons for mx and karting and they've had the same problems with some pistons. But a cast iron kit isnt done for with a seizure like yours. Just have it bored and honed and place a oversize piston

I still cant find about 1/2 of the ring. I have looked all over twice, but I guess I have not looked in the right place yet. Kinda driving me nuts.
I have a new elcheapo iron 70cc cylinder I could do some major work on to try to turn it into something, but I don't know if it is worth the effort or the time.

The elcheapo isnt worth any time unless it has some very nice transfer ducts and port layout,if so exhaust port work is easy..

Thinking about a $100 autotech iron cylinder, anyone have experience with them?

I had one years ago and it was very well made, theyve since changed suppliers,so they may not be as good now..I posted a port map of it,had an interesting exhaust port..

I'm a big autotech fan myself.

I have one with a fairly standard port layout from a few years ago. Used it on Project 49, during the OR test vids, and racked up many miles on it. Still in good shape. Nothing really special, but a good piece. As John said, the exact kits change from time to time. I don't think quality will be an issue judging on past experiences and reviews here.

I broke down and ordered another iron Streetrace 70cc cylinder today. It was only $141 US shipped. I decided to get the same cylinder I had on there so hopefully I can just slap it on quickly with minimal work. It has been a drag not having anything fast to ride, since the 99cc zip is down also.

The new cylinder should be here this week and I just realized I never found the other half of the piston ring? I guess I get to split another set of cases.

Look what the mail man brought for me today! Now I gotta decide if I am going to split the cases to see if I can find the missing half of the ring, or say screw it and just slap this thing on! We have so much work to do, I don't know when I will have time to work on it. I will likely get the 99cc Zip going first, then split the cases on the 70cc to find the ring. I guess it would be stupid to roll the dice on a $150 kit.

Oh man that situation is a pain! Do you go through the hassle of splitting the cases to find out there's nothing there?...Or take the risk of another engine failure because you where too lazy haha!

I'm assuming you checked the pipe.

I think I would fish around with a magnet stick in the bottom end and see what I could pick up. I have cracked a case when a piece of skirt wedged between case and crank, that sucked! I guess it depends on how valuable your time is? It's likely nothing is in there but if there is and you get it all together...
