Before anyone trades, I believe there are different styles of gears. I don't really know much about them though. Not sure if it's a short case/long case thing or something else. I could be completely wrong. I've never tried gear swap. I know if I search for primary or secondary gearing for a CPI Hussar (Triton) or a Yamaha Zuma they both get different results using SIP's scooter specific search feature.

13.5:1 on the CPI Popcorn. Going to try a gear swap one of these days off to see if it is possible, and what happens Did the gear swap a couple weeks ago. Before the swap the with the short gears - - The bike was revving high off the line giving me a nice little jump up till about 15-20, then it would be stuck in low RPM's until about 30 and then take off up till about 50 (depending on roller wear amount and temperature). My worst hill (very long and steep with turns) would drop me down to about 40 mph, maybe more. Upgear to longer stock gears - - It was like changing the contra spring. It still took off hard, but it stayed in the lower powerband instead of dropping below the power, and pulled me consistently up to 30-35mph where it would reach peak power and pull me up to 50-55mph. The same steep long hill I was doing about 5mph faster all the way up. Tucked on a nice cool night going downhill it was scary how fast I was going on those stock tires. I could also definitely use a frame brace at those speeds. So the higher gears did something really unexpected - smoothed out my power from 0-30, without loosing any down low. The real power still kicked in around 30 (thought it would be higher, like 35-40mph) and I went faster up hill (?). I don't really understand it, but oh well.

where did you find the gears? I took them out of my spare engine. The spare's cases and gears seemed to be set up for a 90cc, so the gears and crank stroke are longer.

Drawkward,What is the tooth count or final ratio, got any pics? What brand was it?I'm still looking!! Well, this is embarrassing. I just counted them and they are both 52/13's. I guess me cleaning out and properly oiling the bearings on the inside made a big difference. The original gears had gotten a nut from the brake assembly lodged in them at one time. The gears weren't exactly easy to turn at one spot. Maybe they were binding, and I was losing performance, When I put the new ones in and cleaned and oiled the bearings, it had less restriction, I suppose. It did seem very quiet and smooth after changing the gears out. Sorry about the confusion!

Sorry again, Reg.. Thanks Robert. I was pretty surprised about the difference when I changed the gears. That was when I thought it was longer gears making a difference. Now I'm very surprised that that is not the case. So I'm guessing I have stock long gears? What is the tooth count on a short set? I thought the popcorn had shorter gears because of the much better take off. Now I'm wondering if I can get shorter gears that will pull the front wheel up.
