Now I gotta find Hot Rod that 2strokd posted somewhere. Looks cool from the preview.

I might as well. I was mostly hoping to get it going so my father could ride too, but he's not gonna wanna go out in 20-30MPH winds.

Looks cool from the preview. To really appreciate the movie you really needed to be into the F1 scene at the time. Rear engined cars had only been in use for about five years at the time. Jochen Rindt, Jackie Stewart, Graham Hill, Jack Brabham, etc. were the 'hot shoes' of the day. Just about my favorite F1 finish was the 1970 Monaco G.P. in which Jochen Rindt driving an outdated car set the fastest lap of the race on the last lap and forced Jack Brabham into the mistake of locking up his brakes and straight-lining into the hay bales, relinquishing the win to Rindt. That year Rindt went on to win the World Championship posthumously after losing his life in practice for the Italian G.P. at Monza. Graham Hill made notable appearances in the movie, as did other racers. Graham Hill won the Indy 500 in his debut appearance there in 1966.

An interesting fact about F1 cars in the Eighties is that with the sealing side skirts and ground effects the cars were so G-capable that drivers could only drive them at their limits for about three laps before becoming totally exhausted. This was reported by F1 driver, Niki Lauda. Also skirt failure could result in catastrophic high speed crashes. The skirts were soon outlawed by the FIA.
