There is so much interesting info about nearly any racing league. My problem is I have a horrible memory for stories (in general really). My racing enthusiast friend has tons of them about NASCAR especially. One cool thing I picked up that I can remember from F1 is the Tyrrell P34. It's a six wheeled Formula one car that debuted in the 70s and only lasted 2 years. One race was won in it, otherwise I think it had mixed results.

Yeah, I remember that. Jackie Stewart was one of it's drivers. Aerodynamics on current F1 cars is insanely complex and counter-intuitive. Also there is very little competitive passing and most incidents of interest are pit-related. Are any Americans even competing this year? To tell you the truth it's hard for me to have a lot of interest in the racing itself.

I dunno. I was watching for a few minutes this morning, but I don't get into the racing. The friend I spoke of used to schedule his sleep around the foreign races that happen at all hours of the night, now even he says basically what you said. Sometimes the pole position just stays there the whole race. That sucks. He seems to enjoy watching the knockout qualifying as much as the races now. I do like to watch the street circuits because of the onboard cams. Watching them onboard with buildings whizzing by really shows you what F1 cars are all about. You don't get the same sensation of speed on a giant race track.
Back to the original topic for a sec... I found Hot Rod that 2strokd suggested online. That really was a great car movie. Lots of muscle cars street racing and drag racing. Apparently it was made for TV and hard to find on VHS/DVD, but someone on youtbe posted links to D/L it.

I gotta check that out. I remember him being interviewed on Top Gear and showing that crash.
I watched this one last night. It's more of a documentary following Jim Dunn as he raced funny cars in 1974. I would say watch this if you are a real car nut or interested in vintage racing. You might not find it that interesting otherwise. I liked it. They were running mid-high 6 seconds back then in the funny car class, making about the power a pro-stocker makes today.

Love The Beast was good. Just got done watching it. It might give some folks an idea of how some of us gearheads really feel about our cars. No matter how much logic tells you it's just a hunk of metal.... it isn't.

It hit the nail on the head explaining what a car, scooter, bike, whatever does to guys like us... Its a feeling that is very hard to put into words. You get it, or you dont, only people with the same passion would understand . Its a very good feeling to have.

It's a good feeling... but not good financially. It's cool if you are Jay Leno and can keep every car you've ever owned, but most of us can't. My 'stang should be long gone because I simply can't afford it.... but yet it stays. My plan was to sell it soon after I get it tuned and running right because I need the money more than the car by far. Open up a spot in the garage so all the scooters can park comfortably, put the money in a CD or something, one less thing to pay registration and insurance on... it all makes sense on paper, but actually doing it is another thing. It's been in my possession for 9 years. In some way, the thing represents a good part of 9 years of my life. When I pull it outside to wash it, the garage seems like a different place. It's hard to imagine walking out to the garage and seeing and empty spot and knowing it's not right outside waiting for a bath or something.

:stumped:  Please keep the stang! I totaled my last one drunk back in 03 and it took me a long time to forgive myself :banghead: . I know its a different story, but ive sold em too and regretted it . I had a nice 90GT and practically gave it away for $4,000 and i miss it. You have to much time, money and soul in that car now to sell it man, you would never be the same w/out it now. Not to mention (no punt) you would never get even close to what you have in it back in a sale . I havent even ridden in it yet  !!!! How much ya want
