I think the turbo and supercharger suggestions are because you actually want to see me so mad at the TaoTao that I do some Wile E. Coyote type $%#! to it when I can't get it in tune or making boost. It would save a lot of trouble if I knew where to get one of those big Acme homing rockets to launch this sucker back to the TaoTao factory. Strapping a rocket to it would be the best idea. I wish I thought of that. On a serious note, I bought one of those supercharge science books years ago. I remember clearly it saying that high rpms is worse for a motor than boosted lower revs. I know those 50cc European road racers have hatched up some superchargers. Better yet, I think a leaf blower would do it. Corky Bell's book about turbo charging. You're right. High rpm's stress the rods way more than a lot of boost at lower rpm. Good read btw that book.

I haven't touched this thing for 7 years! I swear I had every intention of getting back to it. Damn two-strokes are too much fun though. I've paid insurance on it all of those 7 years, so obviously I believed my own BS. LOL
Anyway, I am thinking about cleaning the carb, changing hoses, fresh fuel and fluids and checking the tires and seeing if it goes again. That's why I was revisiting this thread, because I thought it was just lack of time/interest that got me off the road but I wanted to see if I had a problem that I forgot.
Not looking to make it a project ATM. Thinking about using it for a practice bike. A friend that used to ride has been looking at motorcycles and his wife is strongly encouraging it... almost bought one as a surprise. Seemed odd. I found out later that she wants to learn to ride, so suddenly the great enthusiasm for him getting a bike made more sense. They were looking at 2 bikes. The cruiser he wanted and a KLE650 that had about 35,000 miles for $2,300 as a cheap bike for her to learn on. The cruiser got sold out from under him so they decided to wait and see if something else comes along that he likes a lot first, but she still wants to get her permit and license and learn.
Rewind probably 15 years and she wanted to learn to ride then. She rode the old Roketa 150 that he owned at the time and I later bought. Crashed that in the yard when she hit the gas too hard and the tire slipped and bent the steering stem and she never rode it anymore.
For that reason, I'm thinking maybe I should try to get the TaoTao going again. Take it and my cone collection to a parking lot with them and see how that goes. It's a far cry from a KLE650... and I think that's a good thing. If the 60MPH 150 had too much power on grass, wait till she tries a 650 out is what I'm thinking. While it's a totally different world, it may be good to get the feel of two wheels and weave through some cones and do some brake practice and slow rolling on a small scooter first. Not a chance she's getting on T2 and I think that would be a disaster anyway, but if she dropped the TaoTao I wouldn't cry over it.
I've gotta talk to my friend first. I'm kinda nervous that if it doesn't go well she would lose all desire to get a bike and then not want him to get one either. I don't wanna ruin this before he even gets a chance to ride a bike again, so I'll see what he thinks. Another friend has a 15 year old that wants a bike when he can get one. If I do get it running, then I may see if they wanna join me in a parking lot as well. If nothing else it would be nice to see it get some use and help friends learn a little. I wanna get out with the TMAX in some cones anyway, because I think it's a good idea to practice slow maneuvers anyway and I kinda enjoy it. Just wanted to post while I was looking at the thread since it's been so long. As usual with the TaoTao, this may all go nowhere and the layer of dust will stay on it.

Why not give it away to a friend? Gone from your mind and you'll do someone such a great favor.

Why not give it away to a friend? Gone from your mind and you'll do someone such a great favor. Ive still got I think 2 BBKs, a performance head or two, air filters, I think a pair of aluminum wheels and probably more that I wanted to play with. I don’t hate the scoot… I just prefer two-strokes and T2 and its related videos keep me busy. Besides… friends don’t give friends four-strokes. LOL

I think it is a great idea, plus give you a break from T2 trouble. Clear your head and work on the 4 stroke.
Come to the light side of scooter tuning, have more fun and less stress. Hard to take a tao tao seriously 😆

I talked to my friend about it. He kinda wants his wife to get a 250 Ninja or something so even if that falls through, we can play with it. lol We both agree that she is better off on a 50 to try general 2 wheeled tasks at first, but he said maybe bring it out once she has a bike as the first practice session(s). So I may get it going if I have time, but it's not a priority. It may very well fall to the wayside once again because I've got more than enough other stuff to do.
