ok so after 2strokd looked at the ped, he thinks its an electrical problem as to why it sputters and dies and does not idle correctly and dies when sitting on center stand at random times. im not electricly inclined, but i was looking over some of the wires under the seat. i have noticed a few things that kinda caught my eye. first off electric start did not work, even when i bypassed the relay with a screwdriver. i replaced that with the other one i have, and it still doesnt start with the button, but it does start however when i bypass with a screwdriver. another thing i have noticed is: the set of three (i think its three) wires coming from the top of the fan cover goes into a wire harness. the other end of the wire harness has 2 wire coming out of it. (it is missing a green one that is going in but not coming out). there is a place for the green wire to be there, but no wire, i cant find it ANYWHERE.... i dont know if this is okay or not. i do happen to have a wiring diagram that is from the manual that the moped came with (pic below) my question is: what wire(s) am i checking/checkinc connections on? what wires would make it sputter and die? which wires make the electric start button work?

The thread Goosey linked above should help you sort that out. another thing i have noticed is: the set of three (i think its three) wires coming from the top of the fan cover goes into a wire harness. the other end of the wire harness has 2 wire coming out of it. (it is missing a green one that is going in but not coming out). there is a place for the green wire to be there, but no wire, i cant find it ANYWHERE.... i dont know if this is okay or not. Mine's the same way. It's fine. my question is: what wire(s) am i checking/checkinc connections on? what wires would make it sputter and die? which wires make the electric start button work? spark plug boot/plug wire to coil coil wires stator wires cdi wires kill switch wires ignition switch wires

spark plug boot/plug wire to coil coil wires stator wires cdi wires kill switch wires ignition switch wires
ok, first off my scoot doesn't have a kill switch, it's part of my ignition (key basicly is a kill switch I guess), I've checked coil and cdi, and I'm not quite sure what u mean by ignition switch wires and stator wires? ( I assume the ignition switch wires would be under the dash?) and stator is in the cooling fan??
If not let me know, and what wires are u talking abou for the boot/spark plug wires? I would think that's the coil wires? Or am I incorrect?

Sorry, I didn't actually look at the diagram.
The ignition switch is where the key goes. Just amke sure all connections there are tight. Stator wires are the wires coming from the fan area.
The coil has either one or two wires plus the spark plug wire attached to it. The spark plug wire screws on and the cap/boot screws on to it.

Pictures and descriptions are in that link above. Should answer your questions. You've been in the guts enough, you'll know what we mean when you see the pictures I think.

The coil has either one or two wires plus the spark plug wire attached to it. The spark plug wire screws on and the cap/boot screws on to it. ok i have checked the two wires going to the coil (mine is green and black). the green wire was on the black plug, and black wire on the green plug, so i swapped them and it seemed to be worse. i got it started, and it idled without dieing, but as soon as i hit the streets i couldnt even make it out of my court without dieing.... and im the first house on the court lol... when i wake up im going to take all the plastic off and check the stator wires and ignition switch, as long as take the speedo cover off, and check the starter switch wires. thanks goosey for that link, the pictures really did help with most of the terms u guys use, and i have gone through some of the list, but havent had the time to go step by step yet. all i know so far is that when the starter button is pressed (key in correct position) it wont even turn over (or make a noise whatsoever if thats not what turn over means), and that it wont ride down the road without dieing. it is getting better idleing, and it doesnt die as much while idleing, but, as i said, tomorow morning im going to check the stator wires, ignition wires, starter switch wires, and go through that link and follow it step by step.

I'm pretty sure your relay is bad. Again, one problem, but not the only one. The other thing I mentioned, if you go to that link, section 11. The second picture shows where you can check the clearance. No special tools reguired there. This is behind the fan, remove the fan cover, and the fan. Turn the flywheel till the bump is directly under the pickup. The clearance should be .01inches, or .25mm depending on your guage type. If you don't have a guage, a business card is close. To adjust it just loosen the 2 screws on the pickup, slide guage or card between the pickup and bump(reluctor)leeve it in while you tighten the pickup back up. There is probably a ground wire attached to the fan shroud top screw, don't forget to reattach that when you put it back together. Attach the ground before running it. Don't run it without the shroud for more than a few test seconds, don't want to overheat.

This sounds like a good candidate for coil breakdown under load. Usually a cdi either works or it doesn't

Well at least hes got a spare both lol! You could try that too stoop. Switch the coils first, its easy. See how well it runs...If not good then switch the CDI. Good advice!

For sure.
Tomorrow morning I think I'm going in this order unless someone tells me otherwise:
1)swap out coil and test 2)swap out cdi and test 3)check the gap on the stator like goosey said
and then of course check all the links problems.
Anything else I should try?

Cut your spark plug wire down 1 centimeter or so and screw into fresh wire with the boot. The spark plug booth screws off of the wire, and you can cut it down to get to fresh wire. It fixed my intermittent sparking problem.

Wow I feel reee-tarded-Ed.... Man I got up this morning, read drawks post, did that ad nothing happened, so I swapped out the cdis. Badabing badaboom. Drove it around the block three times and no dieing.... If only I would have tried the easiest thing to begin with?
Since it's working... I'm almost afraid to try anything else with it, although I am probably going o check the stator gap just to e sure, but I'm still just a little pissed at myself.... Thanks for all the help guys. If it acts up I'll be sure to let you guys know, but i'm just happy to be scooting again :-D
