Opted for the red clutch.springs, kept the yellow contra. First test ride was decent, need to incrrease wieght in the vari again, topped out @ 36. Take off is like being strapped to a bottle rocket! Loving the launch, had to throw my wieght forward to keep the wheel on the ground, not very sensable for a daily ride, but fun as hell! I may change back to the 1500 clutch springs later. What is the service thickness on these clutches? Mine looks pretty dang thin. I scuffed the bell and shoes before reassembly. Going to try 6 gram weights next. Man these scooots are fun as he//

Vento manual lists 2mm as the shoe service limit.

Okay, new problem, not with the cvt either. The engine winds out gets me up to around 40 then dies, or boggs down, like it runs out of gas. A few feet down the road, it will take gas again. I checked the plug, not running lean, but cleaned the carb anyway. Still does it. I need some help guys, I'm stumped.

I temporarily fixed the carb issue. I think I'm going to switch back to the yellow clutch springs to make this a more streetable ride. The red ones are fun, for wheelies or racing light to light, but not cool for avoiding attention. The contra spring seems to be great, I actualy got to feel it let go when I let go of the throttle, it coasted a while before engine braking. Also it felt faster, ( didn't bring the gps ) but that could just be in my head! It felt like it wound out smoother this time too, didn't drop the revs as much as normal when it "shifted" This scoot is coming togethet so great, thank you everyone. " I LOVE 49ccscoot.com! "

Okay yeah! Yellow clutch springs blue contra=43.6 gps. Gonna try yellow spring next to compare. Take off is still like a bottle rocket! Quick to top speed decent revs by ear too. As soon as it cools I'll try the yellow contra spring to see what it feels like with. the yellow clutch springs. Guys, I need a link to a good con-rod. I think I'll just get a good rod pressed on to a stock replacement crank, and have it trued. That might be cheaper than an HP crank, seeing as how the rod and rod bearings are the weak spot anyway. Any thoughts? Chris EDIT: yellow contra spring provides a smoother ride but at a 2mph loss. I think I'm going to keep the yellow one in.

Can someone point me in the right direction to a good con rod, that isn't made of brass like the one in my current engine. I am trying to get a start on my next build!!!

You dont have a brass con rod!Connecting rods are copper plated before the hardening process to shield the areas that need to stay tough, not hard and brittle..Most all of the better quality rods have this process used."Shiney" stuff is like a fishing lure to fish and many people..Food for thought....

190mech,lol. Didn't know. Looked brass, and I wasn't going to dig at it with a pick or knife. lol. Shiney.......... 90 thanx for the link. I havent had one out to measure it soo.. I don't know the exact length either. Polini kits and parts are great, and greatly expensive. I judt can't afford to drop 200 on an entire crank, let alone a conrod. Thanx. Chris

Alright, I'm in trouble now. As some of ya'll know, I somehow managed to strip the lower right jug stud, as if that werent enough there was an incident with an idiotic redneck driver, that slamed me into a ditch, breaking the exhaust mount off of the case. Well I fabricated a temporary steel brace for the exhaust. Yesterday, I took the engine out of the scoot to make installing a helicoil a lite easier. Half way through the tapping process, I left the motor on the work bench and went in the house to use the restroom. CRASH!! I couldn't exactly get out to it at that moment, but when I did get back out there the engine was on the ground, the head broken off of the oil pump. Every where I turn I slam face first into a brick wall. Now, the top end was off and in a cabinet thank God. But my right side case half is trashed, so is the oil pump, I don't think the case is worth putting a helicoil in it. So,I'm now looking to buy a case half and oil pump. My scoot grave yard dude has been in the hospital, he should be home in a few days. I may try to just get the whole engine and be done with it. Ever how. i do it I'm on foot for a few days. I WILL be getting it back on the road, but it will be a week or two. To all who have helped me, Thank you. I am going to fix this back. I have been playing with a few expansion chamber programs, trying to design a decent pipe. I even found a local welding company that told me they would roll and weld the segments for me, if I got them cut out. I just haven't found a good design yet. I can't wait till 190mech posts his tech article. Thanx Chris

Get the whole engine. When you buy just a half it may not align well. I bought 2 new halves from PFS a while back and they didn't even line up right. Best to have a whole engine.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I was planning on buying an entire bottom end used, the replacing all bearings and seals. Thought about placing the helicoil, and just going to premix with my stock top end, but I just don't like the premix deal. I know many of you here run premix, but not with my luck. I'm scared to toast the crank bearings. Anyway, if I get the entire bottom end, I have the extra crank to put an aftermarket rod on, for when I get a good pipe. I will more than likely need to pull the stator off of my current motor, cuz I doubt finding one that is just plug and play. Thats the fun part though, making the impossible work! SCOOT ON! Chris

I might hit ya up on that, first I'm gonna tru to get another whole bottom end. I won't bother the dude on a sunday, I will call the salvage place tomorrow. If nothing else, I might buy that pump from you, and hillbilly engineer everything with the 40mm top end until I get an engine built bottom up. I know I can get an engine from this guy, its just a matter of when. If he wants more than I can afford right now, maybe I can just use this engine for a SHORT time. Thanx moofus02. Chris
