Hey all. After browsing this site for a few months I figured it was time for a build of my own. I just wanted it to be original. I have seen some beautiful scoots built by you guys here. After a recent ride produced a graveyard of scoots, an idea started to form. At first I thought about building a flat screamer. But, performance parts and specialty tools are hard to come by, around here, and I wanted this to be a build that any of my local friends could copy. Then it hit me. A low budget daily driver. At this time, I can't post pics, but I'll take them anywau for future use. I started by picking up two junl scoots of the same type. I own and ride an E-TON Beamer, so I figurd why not build another. I found two 02 beamer junkers at the bone yard, both missing parts but together they both have enough to build a good ride. Who knowd? Maybe this will beccome my wifes first scoot, if I can talk her in to trying it!lol The only rule of this build is that I wanted it to be something that anybody could do at a reasonable price. Maybeif people around my area see how economical these thongs can be more people ywould want one( possible future income?). Any tips/suggestions are both welcomed and encouraged. Thanks.

Very cool to have a scootyard in your area. Should be of good use if they have much, because restoring a Chinese scoot from new parts can end up more than a new one costs. I did that once and regretted it. If body panels become an issue for any reason, naked scoots are fun. Sometimes they aren't the prettiest, but so easy to work on and you aren't always worried about the scoot and waxing it and all that. Down side is that they are rough in the winter if you don't have fairings to shield you. If the gauges aren't good, I would not bother to go with stock replacements. IMO you're better off with a good tach and speedometer that can be accurate. A bicycle speedometer like a Sigma can be dialed in for great accuracy and they aren't too tough to setup and they're pretty cheap. You can get a TrailTech TTO tach that installs easily as well and costs about $30. There are all in one options like the TrailTech Vapor that have many functions. I got mine for $70 open box and it does speed, MPH, odo, trip odo, hours, max speed, CHT, ambient temp, and is easy to read day or night. All of these options make buying original gauge clusters pointless IMO unless you just want a stock appearance or the easiest method to have some sort of gauges. Jut make sure you can figure out how to mount your gauges and a way to see them if they aren't backlit and you ride at night. If you want an easily replicated and affordable street build, the easy thing to do is a sport/street level big bore kit. Something like the Hoca from Parts For Scooters or one of Autotech355's or a Polini Sport. Check for play or noise in the crank/rod/bearings before you bolt any kit on. The street/sport stuff usually cooperates with the stock carb and exhaust as long as the carb is tuned. A selection of main jets and a little time will cover that. The CVT should be OK with just rollers or sliders selected for the best results with the big bore and clutch springs and/or lightening to get it off the line quicker. If you want more after that you can fine tune the CVT with modding or use an aftermarket variator. A good pipe adds a lot. The Leo Vince ZX or ZX-R is a good street pipe that you can find pretty easily. I can't remember if I said this in the past, but try photobucket or some other free host if you are having trouble with the forum and uploading pics. It's a better option anyway.

Thanks 90GTVert. I will try photobucket. As for the guages, Iam trying for stock appearance. The plastics are decent, between the two I have most all of the fairings, except for the battery cover. I am going to frame off and start with the bare bottom end. Since I am building this one for my wife, so I probably wont go with a bbk. Not right away anyway.

I've got an 02 beemer and love it. Good score on a pair. If there is enough there you might get a complete bike with enough left over to build a naked one also. Those little round headlights are ok but stock mine suck (18w bulbs). I would put 35w halogens in it. The way the Eton has a daytime light you won't be sucking up juice unless you need the light and they make enough juice at rpm to feed 2 35w bulbs. Mine has a real carb not a clone on it so a jet kit from parts for scooters (mine was lean stock) for upgrades first mod I would do would be a cheep cast iron bbk with the stock pipe. The second would be gears to get to 10 or 11 to 1 range stock is 13.5:1. Then a pipe

I cut the green bitc@ wire on every scoot I get/work on! My 02 beamer doesn't have day lights. Dont know about the " twins " though. The carb on the beamer I ride is a 19mm mikuni. I think I will use my extra on the build, I only need jets and a bowl seal, its another 19 oval venturi. I like the Miki carbs. Mine runs an 80 main & a 225 or a 325 idle. Only one frame is an option, the other had the bars gone past the battery box &no wheels. Keep the tips coming.

Ordered rings and circlips today. Went to autozone & picked up a roll of cork ( 1/16 ) and a can of copper seal. As I said this is a CHEAP build. I am only doing things that any one can do, using only basoc tools. Tomorrow I will strip my donor engines and pick the best one to use. Then I'll port map them & again pick the best cylinder to start on. Whrn the parts are picked I am going to smooth the ports and take the steps on removing as much extra material from the bottom end.

Headlight switch has Park low and high in Park the lights are on but just enough to be seen real nice because when you put in higher watt bulbs you aren't drawing the battery down at idle in the park position. My left control on my rider had on, high and a red X. The twins have parking lights. Maybe I have an aftermarket switch, or one from another scoot. When my batt died the headlights on my scoot were still bright on bright, even at idle. The dim is a little dim.

I fixed the pics for you. You can't embed slideshows. You should use the IMG links on individual photos or post a link to an album. More info... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/post/7984/threadThe speaker grill looks good in there.

BTW, there is no heat on my garage, so I am doing this build on an old rental house on the back of my property. I camt rent it out any more, so I found a reason not to doze it over. Ps: my dogs go with me when I am working there.

You know it's a serious project when it has it's own address! Home sweet scoot home.
