I got the oil seal in the mail yesterday, putting it in now. I noticed the rollers are slightly worn and have flat spots on some sections. These are not sliders lol. Should probably replace them soon

Well everything went in fine. I might have pushed the seal in a bit too far though. It started to go in crooked and the only way to straighten it out at that point was to push in the other side. I don't think it's going to cause any problems though. What do you guys think? I used grease on the inner part of the seal and permatex ultragrey on the outside.

Might as well leave it and see how it goes at this point.

Oh well, no problems so far, I opened the transmission case after a short run and didn't see any oil, so that's good. I cleaned the belt up with some belt conditioning spray and cleaned all the oil out of the case before I put everything back together. It's still revving up and down with full throttle open from a full stop. It's also still leaking oil somewhere, like 1 drop per second while the motor is running. Regarding the worn rollers, how will these being worn effect performance?

Flat rollers can change how it "shifts" and make it bog or cause a lack of speed.

The seal was pressed in too far. What were these guys smoking when they designed this bs? Why isn't there a lip on the crankshaft to prevent the seal from going in too far?

Shame the seals aren't like the 2T stator side seal. Metal outside with a lip so it can't be driven in too far with reasonable force... and the rubber seems a bit better.

Oh hey, lets design the engine so the oil seal goes bad constantly, and hey, lets make it so the seal has a tendency to go in crooked and too far, and hey, lets make the thing a PITA to remove, and you know what? Lets make it so you can't remove the thing without destroying it and possibly permanently screwing up the crankshaft and seal to make it impossible to ever get a decent seal.

I don't at all think it's the intention for the seal to go bad. That's in some way a byproduct of cost cutting I'd imagine. The Lisle seal puller or some kind of homemade version would be worth it's weight in gold if seal troubles persist. It's about $15 for the tool or you may be able to make one out of somewhat thin steel that would work.

yeah I was just ranting lol. But I think it would be smart to build aftermarket crankshafts with a lip on them for the oil seal to press into. It would help with sealing and also make it easier to install these seals. Also it might be better to make them more than 5mm deep, the case is more than 5mm thick, and a seal that uses the entire thickness of the case would last longer.
Oh well. I ended up screwing up the seal quite a bit pulling it out, ruined the spring etc, but with no moped shops open on sunday, and mothers day (guess they don't want to make money) I had no choice but to put the old one back in. Rather than wait a week for shipping again, I'll go out and get one from a shop tomorrow.
Time for a smoke, lol... so much frustration. At least I know how to not do it next time. I could do this wrong 10 times over and still pay less than I would to have a shop do it.
I did manage to pick up some rollers from a guy running a shop out of his garage. He used to have an actual moped shop but closed it because it just wasn't making enough money to pay the bills. Now he runs the shop at home and does business by word of mouth and has good prices

The roller weights were indeed what were causing my acceleration and rpm issues. With the new ones installed my pickup is excellent!

If you bought the kit that comes with all four seals I noticed in mine the seal for the stater side is the same size as the other side. look at the seals and they should have the size on them.

Now it's kicking out a good amount of smoke from the exhaust. I'm thinking of just picking up a gasket and seal set along with a cheap 80 bug bore and rebuilding the whole thing. Still runs great either way. But with the new slider weights it feels like I'm overshooting my powerband just a bit, maybe I'll add a bit more weight.
