I say damn the salt! Installed the battery and went for the first ride of the season, about 20 miles or so. Feb 24, 50F ain't bad. Tested out my new proper riding jacket - after riding in town and turning my head all the time looking for traffic as is my normal habit, the top front lips of the jacket started to aggravate my neck. So I coated all the the exposed leather with mink oil to hopefully soften it up, short of getting into head socks or a neck bandana.

Rebuilt all this again, for the 4th time haha! I melted the piston pretty good on the last seize, so I hand sanded the smears in the cylinder away and cleaned up the first piston that I thought was toast - it seems fine now that it's cleaned up too. Did the single ring trick, and assembled everything with 3 base gaskets. First build was 2 base, then the 2nd and third build was a single base so now I wanna try 3 and see what happens. Less compression but more rpms? I did all this after work last night. Rebuilt the clutch with all new clutch pads, covering them in 2t oil during assembly. New woodruff key for the clutch too, just because. Now tonight I should be able to pull exhaust, rear wheel and carb and disconnect all wires/cables and swap the engines in an hour or so. My biggest worry is lack of compression due to me somewhat oversizing the cylinder and if that's the case I may just run both piston rings. IDK til I try!

Well, yesterday, but I did run the wiring to tuw front panels for the relocated cdi. Took some pics, but haven't had time, NIR inclination to go through em and get some posted. Now I gotta get the wiring for the RR ran up front, and that have all the magic boxes hidden away, leaving just the coil, and starter solenoid under the seat and skirt.
I just like the simple, non cluttered look that relocating the electronics gives. Two visible wires, the rear light wires will be hidden, I may even drill the frame and run the light wires through there, but I doubt I'll go that far...

Bog remained until replaced coil. electric start works again as a bonus. Got a coil, cdi, voltage regulator spark plug and starter selenoid for like 17 bucks as a kit on Amazon. Put the v reg in and coil saved the rest. Reworked rear stop went for lower profile angled look. Took my daughter for a ride around the block earlier and she had a blast.

Old 24cvk carburator has been giving me troubles. Had to install original. I have to use hockeytape to make up the difference in size to intake manifold.

I have to use hockeytape to make up the difference in size to intake manifold. That stuff seals good enough? I've used bicycle inner tubes in a pinch. Those thicker "thorn resistant" tubes for 26x2.35-2.5 work pretty good.

This is just a quick fix. But seems to hold. Hockey tape gets little oily, when heated, maybe that works as insulator.

It was nice out tonight and I didn't feel like editing video, so I took the TMAX to town. Encountered a 99-04 Mustang that was clearly blown. I'm surprised my scoot didn't cut out, because it sounded like he was sucking in ALL of the air. Naturally that meant I tried to mess with him. I tried to pipe him or jump a little at him for about 5 minutes in a small area of town before finally leaving him behind when he took off slow at a red light with me. I don't have time for that candy ass stuff and it made me kind of ashamed to have ever been a Mustang dude after seeing such a car treated so sensibly.

I think you sshould get rid of that engine.......I just happen to know someone who want's it.

Today I some spare time to catch up on things that needed doing on Violet. I renewed the indicator unit and put the plastic blob on the underside of the engine, checked gearbox oil and changed the rear light unit. I had to cut the old wiring and put the new unit on but not happy at the way the aluminium housing distorted when I tightened it up and now the lens leave a lot to be desired as it does not fit the distortion well and will let in water. It was sold as a fit for Violet and there were some half the price of this so thought get the expensive one and will get better quality. Wrong! I was lucky and found a complete wiring segment for the rear light and will put back the original unit back on, live and learn.

What a beautiful day. Got up to a high of 52°F. In the garden swapping out jets trying to sort the new carb out. Was very pleasant.
