Well I figured it's probably time that I start my own "build thread" for my scooter. It's not exactly an Extreme build, or even has a lot of mods; but it has proven to be a long-term project lol.
I will be glossing over a lot of the mods and work I've done to this scoot to catch up to what I'm currently working on (Homebrew ORvariator, and replicating a Stage6 Pro pipe by hand).
I hope somebody out there will find a nugget of info here that helps them out or inspires them on their project, as I have found sooooo many nuggets of info on this forum and have been inspired by so many of the great members here that I'd like to thank everyone here for everything I've learned about 49ccscoots in such a short time! Mucho Gracias!!
Here's my scoot. It's a 2007 Baccio VX50. "What? Baccio? It looks like a TaoTao EVO150 to me..." Haha yes, the previous owner swapped the plastics out for the EVO150 plastics at some point. It still has some remnants of the Baccio stuff. It still has the Baccio name on the seat, Baccio name carved into CVT cover, and the Speedo/tach cluster says Baccio.
It has the Minarelli 1pe40qmb 2t motor. I picked it up from Craigslist for $500.00. It's been very reliable! I drive it back and forth to work every day. Some nights I stay up way too late because if I don't get it back into good running condition from whatever I did to it that night, I'd be (e)biking it to work the next day. No thanks! lol.
The main thing that originally attracted me to this scoot- and ultimately bought it- is that it's a nice big frame. Much bigger than your typical 49cc scoot. Usually this sized scoot is 150cc+. I learned that it's the "Hunter Style" frame from scrappydogscooters.com.
The other thing that made me jump on this scoot actually makes me laugh now... while doing some research on 49cc scoots, I learned to stay away from the crappy China made models. With the name Baccio, I thought I was buying an Italian made scoot and jumped on the deal! lol. What a noob.
After getting it home, I didn't like the fact that I could hit the kill switch and possibly accidently leave the key on while parked (the previous owner even warned me he'd done it a few times) and I did my first mod. I added an LED light that came on with the key. I used a bulb from a set of LED Christmas lights I mistakingly purchased a few years ago. The bright bluish light string didn't match the rest of my Christmas lights, so it's now my donor for any led lights I may want to add to things... Here's a pic of my first mod: Notice in the pic that you have add a resistor to the + side of the LED or else it will simply blow out on the scoots electric system. When it comes to resistors and lights I go by this philosiphy; "When in doubt, use the big resistor" haha.
I have never accidently left the key on and drained the battery.
Soon I realized I needed an easy-to-reach beverage holder.
And of course the obligatory 12v power supply cell phone charger...
Well that's all for this entry into my scooter diary. Next time: dealing with the super loud "customized" exhaust....
