After my Baccio VX50 Scooter Diary was cut short due to it being stolen, I am starting a new build thread on my new (to me) Roketa AIR R50. Or is it a Roketa MCR-15-50? Or a Rhon? Lol. I'm not quite sure exactly what to call it, but it says AIR R50 on the decals, and I've seen it listed for sale as the MCR-15-50, yet the title says "Rhon", although it's not the liquid cooled version I've seen in some posts here. Whatever it's called, one thing is for sure- THIS SCOOT RIPS!!!
Here's a few pics:
It's a 2T Minarelli- 1E40QMB. I've had a plate on it for only a day and a half now and taken a few 5 mile trips... I can say that one of my first mods is going to have to be the seat since it's so dang uncomfortable and I can't seem to get used to it. I'm developing a plan in my head as to what to do to it, and it seems somewhat extreme. I'm going to have to cut it up pretty good and put it back together somehow to get the comfort I'm looking for. Anyone who's ever ridden one of these large frame scoots with the 2 level seat probably knows how uncomfortable they are. If you sit near the front where you're expected to, you feel too close to the handlebars and scrunched up. If you slide your butt back past the hump, you can stretch your legs out a bit, but you feel unnaturally high and it's hard as a rock up there... Expect a full blown writeup on that seat
I've barely dug into this thing and I can already tell it's going to be a bear to work on. It seems well-built, but nothing is easy-to-reach. This scoot is bone stock (and fast!) and I can tell nobody has really messed with it. It even has the CVT cover gasket! I wrestled my way in to get the Plug out, and this is what I found:
It looks like a weird Chinese brand, and has a ton of build-up. I'm pretty sure it's never been changed! I put a new NGK in.
Here's a look inside the CVT cover:
I've read these scoots come stock with Bando belts. This Bando has probably never been seen by American eyes haha. It measured 15.25 mm wide. I put a new(ish) belt on that I got from the local scooter shop. My new Bando was in the stolen scoot
After really struggling to get the variator nut off- my impact wouldn't do it, and it broke my strap wrench. I ended up doing the ol' electrical-tape-on-an-allen-wrench-shoved inside the cylinder-to lock the piston in place-method (CRINGE). I hated to that, but I had no other option. Finally got the variator nut off and found the reason this thing seems so touchy on the throttle: 4 gram roller weights. I counted the rotations of clutch bell to wheel to get the gear ratio; 13.5 : 1.
So I guess I have already modded it; I put in 5 gram roller weights. The speedo is in MPH (it goes up to 75 mph!) and it reads 50 mph. top speed. I GPS'd it at 41. This thing really does rip- it has great acceleration, and it made me think of what Brent wrote about stock pipes having better low-end than a tuned expansion chamber pipe...
Well that's it for now. I've had this scoot for only a few days and haven't had much tune-time with it yet. It seems really well built and I dig that it has LED tail and turn lights all around!
Next Time: Why my mooded aftermarket HOCA variator won't work on this scooot... (I have a plan to remedy it, but it involves spending $$)
