Just a quick update: I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that I'm now getting the absolute MOST travel possible out of the belt using the modified variator- no marker left whatsoever- AND of course, the belt seats all the way down onto the boss-Best of both worlds- BUT... same speed? Same as stock vari with 4+ mm of travel not touched by belt?? Weird. I have videos and pics- will post soon.

Question #1....WHERE did ya get the Roketa AIR R50?? I have 3 customers asking me to find one...and I can't find them anywhere on the net. Only one place..Power Ride Outlet lists them and has out of stock on them since they got them in January! Also...nice job on the seat mod! Told ya those seats were uncomfy...they are the same ones most TaoTao..Roketa and a few Jonways use. Chinese think we are all either 5' 2" or 6' tall...lol.. Those seats are literally a pain in the @ss. You either sit up front and get cramped legs...or sit on the back so high in the air ya get a nose bleed. Again where did you get it? Got a link etc? I know many that want one and in fact one guy calls me 2-3 times a week to ask if I have one. Yet I keep coming up with nothing.. Thanks, Glenn

At what rpm are you makeing top speed with the stock vari and the moded one. I've realized that I do need to do some 90GTVert-style scientific testing and do a bunch of test runs.. My initial impressions though are that I really don't see much of a difference between the two- takeoff or top speed. Weird... I only have two sets of rollers right now for the Hoca vari- 4g and 6g. The best combo seems to be three 4g and three 6g to average 5g rollers. I will be picking up a set of 5g as I suspect that 5.5g is going to be my magic number. My WOT throttle speed is 41-42mph (gps) at 7k rpm. With a pipe and BBK to get the revs up it seems like I'll have a pretty fast ride. Like I said- I need to do a bunch of runs to get some good data... USMCDOC: Like 2TDave said- I picked this scoot up used on Tampa Craigslist... Seat mod is my favorite so far!! It really has made a big difference in my ride enjoyment.

Found a scooter goody in my mailbox at lunchtime today! Nothing too exciting- just a set of 1.5k clutch springs from Partsforscooters.

Now you have to use 3.5gr rollers or 1000k torque spring or you will get slugish take off

Check out this link: www.extremescooters.biz/roketa-MC-15-50cc-scooter.aspxNote: I mistyped this as "MCR-15-50" in the title of this build thread... oops

After trying some different setups like adding/removing spacers on the boss and different roller weights, I'm consistently hitting 43 mph (GPS) with good take-off. 1.5k clutch springs haven't been installed yet... Not too shabby I guess, considering I was only hitting 46 consistently with a $40 China BBK and $99 ebay tuned pipe. Here's a short vid of my modified "mini Over-Range" variator in action: HERE.
P.S. This is before final adjustments were made- I removed 2 spacers from the boss and my belt travels to the very edge!

3MPH difference from BBK + pipe vs a variator is really good.

Don't know if this is even interesting to anyone lol, but here's how I 'turned down' the OD of the drive boss spacers that Brent sent to me. (thanks again for the bonus!). I found a cut-off wheel chuck meant for a drill- perfect to chuck the washers into! I centered the washers as best I could and chucked the getup into my electric drill. I simply spun the washers in opposing direction to my grinder wheel and voila! A redneck lathe! I sanded the edges across a peice of sandpaper on my workbench to de-burr them. Here's a couple pics of the spacers stacked on top of the drive boss: In the second pic you can see that I did 3 at a time- they look like one thick spacer! Like I said- I know this isn't terribly interesting but hey maybe someone is wondering how the can turn down the OD of their spacers accurately without a lathe.. This worked great!

3MPH difference from BBK + pipe vs a variator is really good. Not too bad eh? I have my eye on the Malossi (sport?) BBK combo'd with my home-made Stage6 Pro pipe- oohhhh can't wait! (Rubbing hands together in a devilish fashion )

Interesting. I just hold the spacers in my hand and turn them against the grinder. That almost certainly ends with burning my fingers and the shape is not perfectly round. I like your method, especially since many can be done at once.
