Still stock contra and clutch springs? Nice job. Good to see you get one under your belt! Yep. Still have those to change. That's tomorrow when I take the CVT apart and start tuning it. I'm thinking of trying a #95 main jet though, I have a fear that maybe I'm too lean with the open air filter. I want to hear how it runs/responds to that jet tomorrow in the midst of the tuning. But yeah I have the contra and clutch springs here and the socket for the clutch. I have clamps to hold it and I have a cinder block to clamp it all to. I have a plan lol. Oh and I tried to remove the back tire. They put some slime shit in there so it's glued to the rim. I think I'll go check out that shop I posted about and see what he'll charge me to put the Michelins on the rims. Maybe even have him change the front bearings, now that I have a bearing puller. *sigh* Believe me, I was worried less about doing this. I'm pretty sure I got it right though. I'm taking the head off first thing though to see if the piston is flush or not like 190mech mentioned, also to see how the plug looks before I decide on jets. Then I'll put it back together, warm it, re-torque it and start tuning. I'm hoping to have it dialed in better within a few hours so I can actually relax a little.

Congrats brother! See wasn't too bad eh? Carb tuning can be a bear sometimes but you got it running so you did something right! Thanks. Haha I know right? I was worried for a while there! When it first ran then I couldn't get it to keep running I was like "OMFG I'M GONNA SET THIS BITCH ON FIRE!!!" But after that post I went outside and said "Hmm... I wonder if the filter isn't breathing enough?" and WHAM! BUP BUP BUP BUPBURRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nearly through my damn patio fence it went! I tried listening to 90GTVert video on rich/lean sounds and dammit I still can't tell. I can friggin hear the difference in major/minor scales, a single violin in a damn classical piece and I know when someone leaves an old tube TV on in another room, but I can't hear the lean/rich difference in a carb?

Feels good, Huh? This is not the BBK I sent you is it?

Feels good, Huh? This is not the BBK I sent you is it? It sort of feels good, it will feel better once I get all the clutch/contra springs in and tune the bastard. And no, you didn't send me a BBK. I got this one from Scooter ATV Parts I was told to get it from usmcdoc. Speaking of the old guy, anyone heard from him lately? How's he doing? I hope well. I'd love for him to see one of his recommendations mounted on an engine.

Dont use copper wire for squish checks, waaaay too hard..Gotta find some of the thick 'old school' LEAD solder...

The evidence in the photo indicates a Floridian. You can surmise this by the dismantled scooter parts and the bare feet. While not proven but hypothesized that Floridians ancestors practiced these rituals of the scooter build. We come to this assumption due too 93%percent of all bare toed mechanics hail from Florida. Later on we'll see if can't sneak up on him and scare the rollers out of him. :thumb:

Dont use copper wire for squish checks, waaaay too hard..Gotta find some of the thick 'old school' LEAD solder... I was thinking the same thing. I checked at Home Depot for some but the cheapest I found was $15 a roll and I'd never use it for anything else. I don't do any plumbing work so it's pointless to buy a roll really. I'll eyeball the level tomorrow and take a pic. I still have to show the exhaust mounting off too. It will be staying mostly apart for a while. I'm waiting for the post office to get off their ass and get me some stuff I ordered over a week ago from 2 counties away. I'm going to run some aux wire up for my GPS or cell phone charger or something on both scoots, getting tired of having an open battery box and gator clips on the batteries lol. I'm hoping also tomorrow or soon I can get the tires replaced. I'm really worried about taking this thing for a long run on these tires so for now it's short tuning runs or short trips. Any advice on what direction I should go for the tuning tomorrow?

I thought that BBK looked familiar I got one of those from Doc to put on the Vino. that is one awesome kit you will be amazed at how well it runs. I don't know what happened to Doc, I hope he is doing alright. Sent from my SGH-T999 using proboards

You could also use clay or silly putty or plumbers putty to do a squish check- maybe oil it a bit so it doesn't stick to anything. Carefully measure without squishing it and throwing your measurements off! If you're using a base gasket I could almost bet you could go with copper spray only and no head gasket to gain some compression, but check squish clearance before doing that! As far as tuning- I'd definitely try richer jets until it doesn't run right with that open filter you could end up in the 100's... A common CVT setup is stock or 1k Contra, 1.5k (yellow) clutch springs, and 5-6g roller weights- just a suggestion as we all know everyones setup is different. Good luck brother!

Thank you again for that! Need it back? I have it in a bag now since I put the Hoca vari on there lol. That crank spline was definitely hurt but Dave did some good work getting it back to running and I pulled a miracle with getting the Hoca vari on there after. Thank you also on the BBK. It feels damn solid, the rings weren't cheap either. I followed 90GTVert post on doing the BBK install, I even took a file to clean the edges of the ports (they really didn't need much actually, they were quite smooth) and I even filed one of the piston rings to make the proper gap. All in I spent over 5 hours doing this. I know, a long time. But I wanted to take each step slowly, plus it took me a while getting the motor out and back in with some cleaning in the middle of it all too.

That's not a bad idea, I'll have to see how far up the piston comes tomorrow when I take the head off. I'm curious to see what that copper spray looks like after I did a Michelangelo to it lol. As for the tuning recommendation, that sounds good! I have sliders though from the 6g up so I'll try those out and see. As for jetting, you might be right. I may just start rich as hell. The jet tuning will depend on if my neighbor is home or not. Remember, her and the cats don't like smoke or fumes. lol

I agree with niz, I used copper spray and the o ring only on mine. Piston was below deck on mine, so it was no problem. You may want to mask off the combustion chamber when you spray the copper, I read somewhere that the copper kills your plug. I got about 1200 HARD miles on the Vino, and it just begs for more! I have a Next-R pipe on it.

I have a Next-R pipe on it. Hah, I have a case of ADD when working on things. I went from the bore to the tire and back to the bore at one point. I even forgot to tighten the intake at another point! I sprayed the copper right to the head before putting it on. I would never spray into the chamber, especially anything sticky or anything other than a cleaner or starting fluid/oil. I'll just re-coat the head when I take it off and if the piston is low enough, I'll toss the gasket aside for a rainy day. The head has plenty of clearance it seemed to me. I can't wait to take this thing for a good ride though. I'm still a way away from that though. I have wiring mods still and tires need to be changed bad. The more I look at these, the more I know I shouldn't push these at higher speeds for sure.
