It's galvanized sheet metal and at this point only the inside had been welded. So what you see on the seams is burn through.

:stars: I hate to admit it, but the Cannonball won't be going to Street Vibrations with me. I just don't see it being in any kind of presentable shape by Wednesday or even Friday. Which is a big bummer. I'm cutting too many corners and rushing the build. It would've been nice to have been able to have shown it at the rally with so many motorcycle and scooter enthusiasts along with dealers and manufactures. Over 15k riders coming to town. But I will still be going to check out the rides, events, babes, and the newest thingamajigs and dohickys. Also I'll be looking for scoots to put a 49ccscoot.com sticker on (by the owner) and get pics to post. I'll admit the gas tank is going much faster than I ever thought it would especially being my first one like this. What the hell did I get myself into this time.

I'm tinkering with ideas for a fuel tank for my bike too, and an idea crossed my mind so im throwing it at you:
You could use a plastic gas tank; i've seen them for as cheap as $25 on eBay; and use your tank as a cover for it. It would save you a ton of trouble getting yours all sealed up.
But whatever you do, this bike is already looking great.

What about one of the little tanks you see on motorized bicycles now to get you up and running until you can finish your tank.

Even if I get the tank done, it's still a long ways from done. Still haven't welded out the cowling, or even started the lower skins. Foot pegs, seat pan, battery box, modules box (CDI, relays, coil, regulator, ect) seat rails, top tube, wiring and lights, have to still be fabbed & installed. And I'm builing a tank not a skirt. Sealing it really shouldn't be a problem. It was the designing, mocking, and fabrication that was difficult. Welding it out is the easy part, I just have to let it cool longer cause I don't have a compressor. if the tank cowling and seat where done I'd call it a rolling chassis and take it to show down on Virginia st. Looks like next spring is the next rally do plenty of time. I didn't realize that once I started the stretch I wasn't going to be able to stop myself and me from doing this extensive of a custom fabrication. It's taking over and I want it done with so I can move on to bigger and better things. This build has tought me alot and I and myself know what not to do on the next one. :stars:

What about one of the little tanks you see on motorized bicycles now to get you up and running until you can finish your tank. Those are only half gallon tanks. I estimate mine to be just under 2 gallons.

And I just might do that on a future build but not this one. Don't snow blowers use plastic tanks also? :hmmm:

Yeah I was just thinking of something to get you up and running. Tanks a focal points as you know and it would buy you some time.
