It was 75 here in Kentucky yesterday...75!!! I woke up this morning and it was 30. We had thunderstorms almost all night. Typical KY weather...last week it was 15 and then 75 and now...going back down again. I was going to tune my scoot for the colder weather on Sunday but it was so hot it would have been foolish to do.

It was -22f low temp saturday night with 15mph winds, didn't get above ten below sunday. Decided to take the scoot out for its December ride. I saw you guys talking about dickies gear, heavy duty gloves, etc but why not try some stuff designed for below freezing, wot across a lake snowmobiling? That gear is windproof, has a durable dry shell, a buffer layer, then boatloads of thinsulate insulation. Add your layers underneath, amd make sure to cross your layers (tuck your thermal shirt into your thermal drawers, your longsleeve into your jeans, sweatshirt over) so you don't get windblown at the waist. Or a dickie for your neckline... www.amazon.com/Schampa-Tall-Neck-Dickie-Black/dp/B001AWJMV0
ah, gear for snowmobile! uh, what IS snow-mobile? must be some kind of kinetic art using snow as a medium. never heard of snowmobile, mate.
good idea. I think I found some decent battery-powered winter gloves! cool

Roads are dry here, rode about 30 miles on the new scoot, from the dealer to a frinds north of Ames, and just got back from a quick ride to ledges and back, rain washed all the snow away, never really froze. Planning on an extended ride tomorrow, with 40 plus temps and sun, I could ride all day.

This is a snowmobile. Its generally a 200 to 600 cc 2 stroke cvt driven machine with 2 steer skis and a driven track. Its made for off road use on snow or ice, and is a winter mode of motorized work and play for many northerners. Most times one would ride these snow contraptions during below freezing conditions and cruising speeds in open, flat terrain may exceed 100km/h - so the need for cold, windy protection is a necessity, and many companies that produce these "sleds" generally also license a line of purpose-made clothing and accessories to protect the rider both from accidents or collisions and these bitter weather/speed conditions. So to those interested in cold weather riding, some research in snowmobile gear is worth it for some year-round scoot fun!

But for the wind up here today, tomorrow looks good, and Sunday, after that looks like the long cold of winter is back with some ice and snow.

The last two winters here in Missouri (and the rest of the Midwest) were brutal, I'm glad were finally having a mild winter for once.

Coldest I've ridden in so far was 12*f. Part of my commute is 65mph for 3 minutes. With windchill that's around -17*f. Glad it's only been that cold once so far. Been mid 20s to mid 30s for most of my commutes lately. All I'm using besides my normal street clothes is a windblocking thermal base layers (top/bottoms/socks/gloves<--freeze out by bilt and a long balaclava by firstgear) and a pair of Colombia water/windproof over pants. Then of course my riding jacket(1st gen icon timaxx) and gloves(alpinestar c-1 windblockers). Wind blocking is key to cold weather riding. I'm still missing an outer wind blocking layer for my torso and really notice it on longer rides. I'll have my tire studs in 4 more days! Can't wait to get them installed so I can really get on it! Though the snow tires(mitas mc32 win scoot) are a massive improvement over the "all weather" tires(mitas mc20) I had on.
