Nice lid and it sounds like the Ninja is coming along nicely. Sounds like it's gonna be a cool experience. Definitely do some research and see what you can find along the way. Dunno exactly how you'll go, but it looks like it would be very possible to ride the tail of the dragon on your way down. That's one of the things I'd have to check out if I were going anywhere near it.

I'll have to see how far from there I'll be. Might be fun Boy do I have a head and neck ache right now. I spent a good 7+ hours working outside today. I feel like I didn't really accomplish much, but I supposed I did. Today's list: 1) Shimmed the cush drive so that there's not so much play in it. 2) Greased the rear axle 3) Removed the entire exhaust to get to the swingarm. While the exhaust was off, I hit it with another coat of red to get all the spots I missed. Looks much better now! 4) Removed the swingarm, degreased, cleaned, painted black (was silver) 5) Greased all of the swingarm connections so they have less friction. The bearings were in need of it. 6) Removed the carbs and cleaned them. They were surprisingly clean, other than some brown dusty stuff in the bottom of the bowls. It blew right out with the air compressor though. And then of course, I put the swingarm and the exhaust back on after they dried a bit. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get the chain put on, and the rear wheel aligned. There's only a few more things to do now!

Wow the exhaust is gonna be RED! Talk about a Triton tribute!
Sounds like you are doing a very complete restoration!

Wow the exhaust is gonna be RED! Talk about a Triton tribute! Sounds like you are doing a very complete restoration! The main problem with buying used stuff. You never know what the last person did or didnt do, so you play on the safe side and just do EVERYTHING. I'm basically just going through the service schedule and looking for everything that should be done up to 10,000 miles and doing it now.

Todays list:
1) Got the new chain installed and riveted in place. 2) Got the rear wheel aligned and the chain slack set. 3) Got the antifreeze drained, and the old radiator taken off. It was even more dented than I thought. The inlet tube was half crushed inside of the rubber hose.
So things are coming together. Slowly but surely ;D If I can get the valves adjusted tomorrow, all I have left is to put the new radiator on, fill it with antifreeze, and sync the carbs.

Nice. When are you heading out on your trip?
Do you have a good, hot wether riding jacket?

Nice. When are you heading out on your trip? Do you have a good, hot wether riding jacket? Probably in around a month. Maybe 3 weeks, but probably closer to a month. I found a leather motorcycle jacket at the thrift store here last year. It fit me absolutely perfectly, and has tons of vents. I think I paid like $10 for it. No doubt it was $300+ brand new. On top of that, I also have a mesh armored jacket that I plan to wear underneath that. If the leather gets too warm, I can go with just the armored mesh.

Nice! Amazing how much protection your basic leather can provide.

Didn't get much done today as far as mechanical stuff. I put the rear fairing back on, and I like the way it looks so far. I also got my Action Packer hooked up with new bungees. I might grab a few pictures tomorrow of how it's held on, if I remember. I also took the front wheel off to put the front fender back on, and I noticed the front brake pads are nearly gone, so I ordered a new set of those. Tomorrow is valve day, and hopefully I can get it up and running after that.
I also went out and grabbed a new sleeping bag that was on sale at a local store here, and a travel pillow. I set up the tent outside, so I can sleep in it tonight and see how well it's gonna all work for me. I have a long couple of weeks ahead of me yet, but it's getting there!

Sounds like you are thinking things through and being very smart about your planning. That's all going to mend the trip better.
Good progress.

Well, sleeping in the tent last night was quite possibly one of the best sleeps of my entire life :thumb:
I got the valves done today, and got the new radiator put on and antifreeze put in it. The only problem is, I think the thermostat on the new radiator is bad. I warmed the engine up to mid-hot range, and the fan wouldnt kick on. I unplugged the thermostat and bridged the pins and it spins just fine. I think I may end up having to drain the radiator again and put the thermostat from the old radiator in and see what it does.
Other than that, it runs better than it ever has before. It idles right where it should be nonstop, where before I couldn't let it get below around 4000 or it would die. Now I can get it down to 1000 and it still keeps going. And I haven't even synced the carbs yet ;D

I'm sure you guys are getting sick of my status updates by now But they're almost over! Spent the rest of the day draining the radiator, swapping the thermostat from my old radiator into my new one, which then triggered the fan the way it should be. The only problem is, the fan is going bad. It's hard to turn by hand, and it stops instantly when you turn off the bike, instead of gradually slowing down like it should. Not to worry, I ordered a new fan ;D I also managed to get the carbs synced this afternoon. Boy were they off! I got them 100% perfect now though. And the last part of my update tonight: A little eye candy for you guys Enjoy! And as promised, here's how I'm holding my Action Packer to the bike:

:thumb: Good stuff. I'd try painting the calipers red and/or maybe some red graphics or Ninja decals or something to tie in the red on the large side panels. Cool as-is too though. Nice work.

I think I have a pack of printable sticker-paper. I could print out the 250R and Ninja logos in red and cut them out with a scissors and stick them on
