That doesnt look like my carb at all, I guess it was "mislabled" on feebay I have what is basically a stock phgb 19mm carb.. It doesnt have that splash guard. I got to thinkin maybe Im just way off with jetting... When running a stuffer crank does it require a smaller jet than normal?? IDK just a thought out of desperation.. Maybe I should be in the 80s? And thanks for the help spaz12

I knew about this problem (that you obviously don't have) because I myself am guilty of turning that damn thing the wrong way. Anyway, It starved the motor of fuel whenever I would give it gas, which sounds like you might be going through.
I'd had an issue prior with a loose wire on my pick up coil and so I was thinking pick up. That wasn't it. Changed stators. Changed flywheels. Intakes. Yada yada. Then I thought about that damn splash guard. Bam! Fixed! Ended up being something so simple.
I found the problem as I know that you will too. Sometimes it's right in front of your eyes... Anyway, It sucks when you're trying to chase down those little gremlins and can't find em. So I feel your pain.
Maybe try switching out carb to rule that out?

Today I realized that I have much to learn... I think this whole time.. Its just a jetting issue, i put a smaller jet in and things got way worse, I guess I need to be in the high 90s to low 100s with my MJ...
But Im having a hard time finding jets for this carb. They look like dell jets but are a little bigger..

They look like dell jets but are a little bigger.. Jetting or tuning the carb is tough for me also and most people. Anything other than a stock motor/carb setup can make you pull your hair out! I have learned along the way that an open type air filter, or even inconsistent airflow (leaks) can make you loose your sanity trying to get it tuned. That is why I often rig up a stock airbox first just to prove to myself that the damm thing will run, then I change to whatever filter i want, and retune..... Sent from my SGH-T999 using proboards

If you can please post a picture of your carb. If it is phbg or clone maybe it came with some 4T parts in it. I have heard a 4t bushing and atomizer can make it hard to tune. Here is a helpful link for the PHBGHere is a link for JETS

How about your plug boot and wire? Have you tried changing them as well? I bet you have, but I'm just throwing stuff out there.

Ok!! So Im back in town and now, Im back to tinkering with the jog. But I cant get over this same ole hump!! I got back to it and tried a few different jets all with the same results. I tried 85,90 and 95 size MJ's.
I also tried to add a ground wire because I was running it without a starter, so I added a ground strap from where the starter should be, to its harness connection, so that wasn't the problem either. Now Im thinking that there has to be an airleak but as of now, I have no way to check for air leaks and dont really know how either..
Also, I want to add that, I can hold the throttle at halfway, and it will surge and buck.. Sound like an air leak to you??

Could be an air leak. Can you try another carb to see if the problem still exists?
