I came up with this mod after seeing that ncy offered a coil on plug upgrade but I didn't want to pay the price tag. The benefit being a more direct, quicker and stronger spark to the plug. There is no special wiring necessary, just have to make the bracket to valve cover and trim the rubber boot. Oh and it's a 2000 or newer Ford crown Victoria ignition coil. And yes this works and very very well!!!!

The better the spark the hotter the engine gets easier to overheat in hot temperatures ? Idk just a thought

looks cool but i agree with blaq, i wouldn't go hotter than a coil that is designed to work with these engines.

I've run this set up for 3 years. Not one single problem. Even on long rides. If your scoot is tuned and built correctly you've got nothing to worry about.

I've run this set up for 3 years. Not one single problem. Even on long rides. If your scoot is tuned and built correctly you've got nothing to worry about. I agree with this. From experience. The spark simply ignites the fuel/air mixture. You want as powerful a spark as you can get. It's the mixture ratio that determines how cool or hot the motor will be from combustion (along with timing). MSD and Mallory ignotion systems for high performance drag race motors provide a stronger (higher voltage) spark. I have personally run MSD igntion systems on turbo charged high out put car engines and nitrous assisted turbo charged engines making well over 150hp per liter and the difference is not just noticeable, it's dramatic. Dyno testing revealed sometimes 5% gains in output to the rear wheels with nothing more than an improved spark. While scooter engines will never realize such dramatic gains, they operate basically the same and the better the spark, the more completely the mixture will be burned. Gas mileage may also improve. A more powerful spark makes the engine more efficient. The mixture, timing, cooling system (and sometimes fuel quality) govern how "hot" the motor will run.

Hey Grom, This looks like something I would be interested in doing. Good job Did you by any chance notice an improvement in mileage (or was that even a concern?) I'm pretty sure given the cheap chinese coils that this would make an improvement and I absolutely love beating the oil companies by getting tons of miles out of a tank of gas.

I agree. A more powerful/more consistent spark is something to seek, not to shun. Performance and fuel economy may both increase with a better spark. If cooling problems arise after some sort of ignition upgrades you've either changed the timing or you had a cooling issue to begin with that was masked by improper ignition causing a richer mixture.

I can see the benefit on a 2t to help with fouling.

How do the wires connect to the coil? Special connector?

I like the idea so I went to junk yard and bought a used one I guess those coils come on just about any ford

Thanks guys! Humanshield, lol, no gas mileage was of no concern. No special wiring really needed there Dude, since ford only has two signal wires one signal and one ground it really is simple. lol yeah there's a lot of fords that use that coil design. The biggest instant improvement is with the starting!!! Much much better than the china coil!!

this should work on both 2t and 4t i hope will be trying it on my 4t that I can't get running correctly it's a carb thing I know starts and idols fine just don't give it any gas it will rev up and fall flat I think it's a blockage but two different carbs same thing and it's time to take the head off and give it a good decarbonizing LOL

Yes, this should work on just about any scooter engine! As long as it's got a signal and a ground!

Our China scooters are kinda challenged on the dependability area , but putting ford parts on our scoots is asking for trouble. ok ford guys let me have it
