Hope you don't mind me asking but the COP mod sounds intriguing.
I've got a few COP's floating around from a Peugeot V6 engine. These are 2 pin coils but they are supplied with a constant 12v and are earth switched by the Engine ECU.
Can someone let me know if the Ford coil works the same way or vice versa?? I'd also like to understand how a typical scoot coil is energised and operated if possible?
I'm trying for every conceivable budget mod on my stock minarelli 50. Any help would be appreciated!

Since Im a dub and Euro guy, I reccon Ill go source a coil pack from a VR6 or something and give it a go. Im still thinking about the MSD coil Brent is running.

Sorry for the bump, but which pin is which and will it work with my AC CDI?

It's pretty self explanatory once you physically have the components on hand. IIRCC there was a brownish-red (hot wire) and a white/black (ground wire) on the one I snagged. My scoots wiring harness & terminals for the coil are black/yellow (hot) green (ground). So just hook em up and done.

Does it hurt anything if I just plug it in randomly and see if it works?

Best thing to do would be go to a junk yard and find a Lincoln or Focus with that style coil pack and clip the male side pig tail and go from there. I took the COP and it's immediately pigtail/harness. After I modded the plug lead portion and added a Bosch connector, I just lengthened the pigtail harness and added spade connector to the new wires. Plug n play at that point.

Sorry for the bump, but which pin is which and will it work with my AC CDI? I've flipped the wires on coils before with no ill effect when trying to find the right combo. Just the typical 2t/GY6 scoot coils....

Sorry for the long time lapse lol. There is a definite power and ground pin. On the 2 pin ford coils there is a tiny TINY + symbol for the power pin.

After trying the COP a couple times, I'm still on the fence. I know the Ford COP draws more current when using the electric start. After a few tries, if the bike doesn't fire, the batt is dead. Even quicker then normal.

Hmmm. I haven't experienced that issue with them yet. Gen 1 or 2 coils?

Coil on plug works better because of the loss through the spark plug wires. Graphite wires were invented because of electromagnetic interference when used with sensitive electronics. A scooter doesn't have the electronics that a car has. I suggest a new Ford coil because I have tested them for racing applications. The spark is hotter and it helps with misfires. Misfires occur mostly at low rpms. That is why they start a vehicle easier. Ford went over to them to meet the emission standards (so did all car companies). The motor does not run hotter because of it. A vehicle can misfire 10% of the time at low Rpms.

Yeah, I paid $8 for the 2 wire plugs and $12 for two c.o.p. coils with plug boots. $20 does both my scoots. Sounds promising. Wth
