Ha waaaay cool bro!!! I'd love a complete set of spokes for mine, light as hell so I can do wheelies ezier..!!!! I actually think it is a little heavier. Going from a 10 to 12" wheel, plus the larger tire size added a little weight. The front end doesn't seem as light and responsive when I ride it too. Although it does feel more stable…

Looking good, looking good. Are you doing the rear wheel in spokes too? I would love too, any suggestions how? I would imagine a custom made adapter used on an existing wheel? Sorta like guys that run Aerox 50 wheels on a Zuma motor. Might have to offset the motor a little to make it look right afterwards? Of course I don't know what size wheel you can shove on that motor and if it'll match the front.

Did some prepping today. Next Sunday we're going on a moped run through the rain forest. Changed rollers, belt, center spring, packed spare parts and tools. Changed my transmission oil, using 0W-40 mobile 1 motor oil. Fingers crossed, hope i make it there and back, especially. Ordered a water resistant filter cover, because it looks like rain. 120 mile round trip. Should be fun!

Nice! Sounds like fun! But about motoroil in your gearcase...is that a good idea? I've always been told (scooter) gearoil has been specially formulated for high pressures (in between gears)?
But on the other hand, i've heard 4t motorcycles share motoroil and gearbox oil?

But on the other hand, i've heard 4t motorcycles share motoroil and gearbox oil? I've been running it for years, sometimes i'll go over 1000 miles before changing it. Never had any problems. The lighter viscosity allows the gears to accelerate faster, spin easier, and has less resistance which helps maintain higher speeds. Mobile 1 is rated for 500 degrees. If it is good enough for Nascar it is good enough for me.

When filling up, you only have to use about a third the amount of gear oil. I learned this the hard way when it blew a couple ounces of oil out my overfill tube, all over my wheel. So i rode it till it didn't blow anymore oil, then drained it into a restaurant style ketchup bottle, and marked the level. The ketchup bottle allows for an easy fill. Never had to change gears or bearings in a handful of mopeds. I only use 0W-40 Mobile 1 oil.

It would benefit from a good blast of carb cleaner, but if you didn't want to do that, you could just fill it up a few times and drain it. That should provide a good enough flush. Make sure to spin the gears to help mix everything up, before you drain it, for a good flush.

Sounds legit...and i looked it up in the Yamaha Jog CY service manual and that says 10w30 motor oil But now im confused. When i went to a prominent scooter racing engine builder to buy gear oil (with the conception he knows exactly whats best for a scooter) he sold me this SAE90 scooter gear oil. But tis is exactly the same as the very thick axle/differential oil used in cars? What do you guys think? I haven't had any problems yet though.... BTW i also have some very agressive SAE70 gearbox oil for the Cr500, would that work?

My 87 Derbi recommends straight 30 weight oil. I have seen some recommend automatic tranny fluid.

I trust my Guru's experience of over 25 years tuning, and hundreds of engines built. Love Mobile 1. Like I said before it's rated at over 500 degrees. If it is good enough for Nascar, it is good enough for me.

So I was excited to show off my spoked wheel on the Venus, for the moped run, but it didn't work out. Was going through things and making a few test runs, and she was running hot, about 425 on the cylinder head temp gauge. She used to never go over 400, no matter how long I held it (7 miles up and down small hills). So I thought I had a intake leak at high rpm's. I went to check my intake bolts, if they were tight, and i spun the threads on one. Note to self, leave the bolts alone when the block is hot. Aluminum is soft when hot! so I tapped the hole and bolted things back up with new gaskets, and she wouldn't start. By this time I was frustrated, and didn't want to miss out on the run, so I busted out the Arnada instead. It turned out to be a good day. Lots of mopeds and lots of camaraderie. I'll run a compression check, when I get some time off.
