Hey new to the forum..My names Ryan and Im located in Greenville NC. I picked up a used 2009 Eton Beamer 3 for 700 with 5500 miles and this will be my build thread. So far I have installed: -Ebay Cast iron 2 ring 70cc BBK. I jetted it with a 6mm mikuni jet. 87.5. The stock one was an 85 surprisingly. ..I think the Eton Carb is different from the Zuma and am not sure if its the right size. I need to do a plug chop but it seems to run ok for now. It doesnt sound lean but after a high speed wot run after closing the throttle the rpms hang. I am thinkin/hopin its an intake leak -pirelli sl26s..Tried to fit a 130 in the front but it would not fit so i have the stock sizes. Huge upgrade over stock though. These tires are super soft and I can really throw it into turns. They are also very smooth on the road. I am thinking about balancing them with dynabeeds for an even smoother ride. -stock replacement variator with 7 gram weights -deleted front/rear fender/all turn signals I have a new belt and a 1500 rpm contra in the mail. Right now i am only seeing 41 mph top speed and it kinda bogs until I get up to 25ish. I am hoping a fresh belt and the 1500 rpm will allow the motor to rev out more at all speeds and give me more top end. I am looking at pipes and am leaning towards the LV GP. Apparently it makes the same power as the ZX but is quieter. I am trying to make an order within the next few days.
I need to get ahold of a camera but I will have pics up shortly.
How hard should I look at some kind of reed block/reeds for a 70 kit and a mild pipe?
My future plans are for sure a pipe, Clutch springs, Reshaped Seat, Maybe Flat white rattle can paint, shock extension, possibly run naked stock bars or upgrade to something else, and some kind of tach/possible CHT gauge. I also do not have the kick start installed and rely on the electric starter so I may try to upgrade the battery and starter wires with 8 ga to get it to turn over faster.

:welcome: sounds like you've a pretty good jump start and a plan in mind. a set of cf reeds aren't a bad idea and pipe is most definitely recommended if your wanting more power and torque.

Welcome to the forum! Sounds like a project with a lot of potential. It definitely needs some fine tuning. 41MPH from a Beemer with a 70cc kit is a little slow. Definitely be sure that carb is in tune. If it gives you a lot of trouble, you might wanna do a pressure test (how-to build a leak down tester is posted in the tech section).
Those 7g rollers sound heavy to me. I would think maybe 4 or 5g rollers would be better for your setup. You might see a big difference swapping those out.

Doing a reed upgrade is a good idea but I think you should think about upgrading your intake size as well. This will especially help at higher speeds. Kind of sounds like you are concerned with limiting noise output so you will probably be staying with your stock airbox. Look for a better flowing filter element and (Malossi, Polini, etc?) think about strategically adding extra intake hole(s). I think you should consider going with a conventional expansion chamber exhaust and perhaps increasing exhaust and transfer durations as well as exhaust port width.... you won't be disappointed. Check out your final gearing and compare it with others here. If you decide to upgrade your carb going up no more than about 2mm will probably work better for you overall and be easier to tune. Do get a tachometer.

Little update..Threw a 90 jet in the carb and immediately noticed more power up top. Hitting 43 with the stock pipe still. New pipe/rollers/clutch springs should be here any day. I cant wait to install it. Really excited to get this thing screaming like it outta. I think the roller weights will really help bc right now it doesnt rev out at all like it should. I threw the 1500 rpm contra and new gates belt on and the cvt is quieter and smoother. Didnt see much change from the 1500 rpm contra it feels like it put more drag on the trans. Picked up a small amount of torque around 3 mph, acceleration feels slightly more linear.
Im not sure what weights or clutch springs the ZXR comes with but all I care about is 0-40. I wanna try and lift the front on the stock crank. Whats the highest rpm clutch springs reccomended for street use? Is the only downside higher clutch wear and heat? I love a good clutch dump if i could do it daily somewhat safely I would be thrilled. I imagine the clutch springs are gonna be a huge part to lifting the wheel at a light?
I have a 95 main Im gonna put in when the pipe comes in, I am just guessing here. Would the dealership be able to read/perform plug chops for me? I want this thing tuned spot on and I have no experience reading plugs. It seems like most people raise their needle one notch should I think about doing that?
Also who has installed a shock extension? Seriously thinking about this if it will help it corner better and I think it would make it look more aggressive/dual sport ish
Also waiting on pics sorry I will def have some up after the pipe install

Also can someone point me in the right direction for some reed blocks? Willing to drop some coin if it will get my scoot to idle better and pull harder. Would hate to break a metal reed. Are there any other intake mods I should do? I want to keep it as quiet as possible should I for sure remove the snorkle? And if so is that both the outside and inside of the part? I washed the stock filter it was filthy

You can get the wheel up with the stocker, it may take a pipe tho?. Run your 1,500 torque with a set of 2,000 clutch springs, i bet that will help. Also, like Brent mentioned, you should try lighter weights. 7,s do sound way to heavy. Try a set of 5,s.. Raising the needle should help unless you feel it too rich at part (1/4to 1/2) throttle. It will gurgle and 'lope' if its too much. I dont know about raising the rear? Never tried it. The exhaust should help allot! You will probably have to retune it tho?

I wouldn't take it to a dealer for tuning if you want it spot on. I believe most dealers would simply choose a large jet that works. Usually if they do enough they'll just assume every scooter gets X jet. At least that's what I've heard from some shops. If you have a really good shop that does performance work, they might actually try to dial it in perfect for you. Getting it ridable takes a little time. Getting it just right takes a lot more time and tinkering usually.

Those are OK, but the intake is way bigger than you really need. Stage 6, Polini, and Malossi all make very nice reed cages, but you will pay a little more. enviromoto.ecrater.com/c/971688/intakeDon't forget to check the banner on the main page for a discount code from Enviro if you choose to order anything there. If you wanna try tuning yourself, check this out... hondanighthawks.net/carb14.htmGood info for learning what each bit controls.

Could I take the intake off that and just use the reed block? The other ones look better built. There is interesting info on there for tuning I am trying to make sense of it

You could take the intake off and just use the reeds, but you really don't need a larger intake at this point so I feel like it's a better use of funds to just get a higher quality reed block setup. I bought 2 of those reed setups like the Hoca, then I bought a Malossi. I've never went back to Hoca for reeds since. They aren't bad, but they definitely aren't on the same level as the others.
