Hi All!
The '79 Vespa that I acquired in a trade has no title and I plan to use this website: www.motorecyclenow.com to obtain the title for it! Titles are a big deal here in my state (Florida), so being able to obtain one for a scoot like this Vespa will be a great investment.
I'll keep this thread updated as I move through the process of acquiring the title and hopefully in the end we'll see a good result!
The website says the turnaround time is 3-4 weeks- hopefully I'll be finished or finishing up with my rebuild/modifications around then. Here's what the site says about their service:
"After submitting the documents stated below with our minimal service fee, you will receive a Vermont Transferable Registration card (this is proof of ownership that is treated the same as a out of state Title) in your name and license plate good for one (1) year. With this you will be able to transfer into your state where they will issue you a new regular Title. Or you can drive the vehicle with insurance and renew annually online. We have helped thousands of customers throughout the entire U.S. and can do the same for you. International customers welcome too!"
My Vespa scoot falls under the category of "Motorcycle and Large Scooter 15 years and older" (Any cc) and the service costs $150+tax.
The good news is 49cc scoots are only $75 for the service!
STEP 1: Step one is pretty simple- I printed out the forms they'll require (they provide these printouts on their site):
Documents needed:
Bill of sale (does not have to be notarized)
VIN Visual Verification if the motorcycle is 500cc or greater
Power of Attorney signed and notarized
Moto Recycle Application
Copy of your drivers license or ID
Since my scoot isn't 500cc or larger, I only needed to print out 3 forms. The Power of Attorney form needs to be notarized so I'll work on getting that squared away asap. Luckily, there's a UPS Store very near me that provides the service!
It's getting late now, but the other (optional-kinda) step I plan to take right away is to get a vehicle history report at the site they suggest. It costs $4.95.
So here we go- a real world example of someone trying to obtain a scooter title. SWEET! See y'all on Step 2!
