Worked on walking up the Cambrian mountains today show a friend some of the sites. The last time we were together was 34 years ago when he left Basingstoke, got married and moved to Somerset.

A lot of water under the bridge since that picture Milly. I bet you got up to some right mischief together. The old SLR rifles look so long now. It must have been a nightmare clearing buildings.

Finally got round to replacing the walkboards of my deck. I was very fortunate to have both of my daughters men to help me or it would not have got done. Me and one of them got six boards done yesterday, it was 83° and I folded up like a paper sack in the rain. Today they both showed up and we finished it in 63° weather. The worst part of it was the idiot that originally built it (me) used three nails at each joist which was 30 nails per 12' board, most of which were rusted ring nails that would not budge until exposing the head with a cats paw then using a crowbar to finish pulling them out. I am currently whipped.

I had one of those plastic chairs collapse under me, mine was green, a month ago. I figure it had been out in the sun too long. I also use three nails per joint, usually ring shank for flooring, so you are not alone. Those boards will all weather to the same color soon. The originals look like #1 clear grade.

The boards that look different were changed a 3-4 years ago. At that time they all really needed to be changed but it was right after covid and lumber was sky high. Now that lumber prices are back to almost normal I still went with the cheapest grade. Both are from the same source and are ground contact treated but you are right, it looks like I used untreated on the older ones. I will get around to coating it with something when the new ones weather a bit. When I first built the deck I bought expensive coating every year or so, it did great on vertical surfaces but damn near vanished overnight on horizontal surfaces. I actually got a couple gallons of coating under warranty one year, but they said no more after this. The framing is still solid, but I need to replace the top rails and some wood around the lattice. I sort of let it all go over the years. I cannot even remember what year I built it.

Lumber prices will continue to go up, especially after what happened down your way. There is nothing anyone can do about that, -simple economics. Prices for everything will go up all over the world. Disasters/wars are continuous everywhere and WILL get worse. We are all in deep crap. I have also had to let things go over the years. Some people have their heads in the sand and think things will get better or even the same in the future. I find it somewhat humorous to think about all those apocalyptic movies and how the conditions they imagine will probably look good in 5-10-20 years. LOL -At least I won't be around to see it.

I use outdoor rated screws and predrill (too small) the holes. Two per stringer for 6" wide, three per for wider. Relativly easy.
