Well, I was at the junk yard today, checking out mufflers for a Cavalier, and figured I'd check out the scooter section while I was there. They only had 2 that were 2stroke engines. One was a Triton that I had seen there 2 years ago, totally stripped except the engine. One was a brand new one they just got in. It had only been sitting out there for a few days, max. It's got a short Minarelli horizontal engine, 12 inch rims with low profile tires. It was wrecked in the front end, but everything else is fine. I stole the plastics off of a 4stroke with the same body style, and bought the full scooter too. Now I have a short Minarelli with a ton of spare parts. I was a bit concerned about what I was gonna do about an ignition or fuel tank cap. I broke open the lock on the 4stroke scooter, to get under the seat. There were 2 keys, zip-tied together. I ended up taking the ignition, seat lock, and the gas cap off of the 4stroke! Along with the seat, of course Let me know what you guys think from the pictures:

Cool! Looks like a winner if the price was right! Im sure it was or you would have left it there... The price was definitely right It was worth it just for the engine. And I got the whole scooter, plus a TON of extra parts on top of it.

So I've been outside working on this thing for most of the day. I just noticed the odometer. Check this out! 250 miles, no lie. After checking everything over, this thing appears to have been used VERY little. I tested the odometer by walking the scooter, and it does work. I honestly bet it's true.

Nice find!Didnt think a short case would take a 12" wheel.. Neither did I. It's a 12 inch rim, with low profile tires. That's the only way they could get them to fit. Works out great for me though, because I have a spare low profile 12 inch tire in the garage down the street!

Nice find. Shoulda looked through the motorcycles for a possible engine swap! Haha. There was a brandy-new looking Burgman 650 sitting right behind me when I took those pictures I'm sure he would have wanted a pretty penny for that, though. I managed to grab a horn off of a Ninja 500R while I was there too, seeing my 250 is missing the horn.

I was looking at a 650 on eBay. Sounds like fun, but the decent engines do draw a steep price.

TIL: Junk yards have scooters.
Nice catch. So I'm guessing you're doing a build on this short case? What's your plan of action here?

That's the first time I've seen a 2T on a scooter like that. Nice!

Plan of action is to throw some serious effort into this engine ASAP. I'm looking to pull as much power out of it in as little amount of time as possible. If I were to go all out with a full year to work on it, I'd grab a Polini Evolution 2 kit, liquid cooled. I don't feel like holding back or skimping on this build ;D
