Being that you are using EFI you must have a ECM that has a data port on it. Did they provide you with the serial cable to run between the ECM and a laptop? I have tuned EFI cars before using my laptop, was wondering if the scooter has a similar set up for changing the spray width, duration and advance, if so you can tune it right in to ride in any type of weather. You can do some amazing things with a EFI motor if tuned correctly.

Just checked and I have two different types. They both hook up to the parallel port and convert it to a serial port. Here are the images.

There should be a test environment for your software so you can play with the tuning without making any changes. They usually put a sample project on the CD that it came with so you can get familiar with how the process works. The first few times will be confusing and time for many head scratches.

I have to use a USB/serial adapter to hook up to my car. If you have any trouble connecting, try a different one. If you buy your own, don't buy a cheap Chinese made one. I did that the first time and spent a lot of time playing with settings and cursing before I replaced it with one I found on newegg.com that had a lot of positive reviews. Hooked it up and immediately established communication. I think it's more of an issue if you run Windows 7, as I do.

Good point you make about the connector as the cheap ones will do nothing but cause you problems.
I am not sure what software they provided you with to program the ECM but I do know this that I have never used Windows 7 with it. I have a old laptop that has XP installed on it and that is what I use.

I love Windows 7 for some stuff, but it can be a real pain with compatibility issues. My only laptop is running Win7. I bought a newer one thinking that was the smarter choice to be sure nothing lagged etc... Turns out I was wrong as usual. lol

tomorrow my serial to usb adapter should be in so i will then be able to get to sending files back and forth and get the thing on the road
today i got my air filter mounted up the issue i ran into was getting the air filter to clear parts of the frame i needed either a 90 deg mount or a 45 deg mount with a small filter but the one i got is straight the one in th idc catalog that they say is 45 deg is too small to get on the throttle body
but i went out to a grand am that is awaiting a trip to the junk yard and cut the upper rad hose off as it happens to have a 90 deg bend on it and used that to mount up the air filter it was a snug fit getting it on the throttle body but its on
ill get some pics later
