The rim I bought was sized incorrectly. I ordered a 3+5 and got a 4+4. Finally got the replacement today and took the rim and tire to a shop to mount it. We were unable to stretch the 130/70-12 onto the 12x8 rim. I'm sure its been done, but I don't have the skill or patience to do so. I ordered a Avon Viper Stryke 140/70-12 and we'll try this again. Additionally, it seems like my rim is not actually a 12x8, its closer to 9 1/2" width. Even bead to bead is 9" I'm not happy about that but at least this rim fits on the swing arm without rubbing.

Not to sidetrack too much but I'm curious from your comment about rim size being off...
Is it a 'thing' for aftermarket rims to be imperfect to a certain degree?

I think so. Both douglass rims I bought are a bit off measurements. Probably a quality thing. Douglas isnt a top tier brand.

Looking closer, remind me to never bitch about measurments from memory. The rim is actually 8.5” but its exactly 8” from bead to bead. Just has a large protruding lip. Which is fine. Im at a stand still until I can get this tire mounted. No luck at two different shops mounting the 140/70/12 Avon. How the hell do you get this tire on. In the mean time.

Cant do much until I get the tire mounted. Ive tried 4 shops. No one in my town can mount this thing. Im not sure how to proceed. I dont want to throw money at this thing.

What shops are that? Never heard sh*t like that. Tire shop has to mount it, as long its possible.

I don't see why they can't mount it. It's not like it's an unusually large size.

People around here just dont stretch tires. Michigan has some of the worst roads, i guess i dont blame shops for not knowing how to “hellaflush” lol Im gonna try the areosol method to seat the bead. A coworker said hes done it before, and hes willing to help. I finished the motor mount and im gonna mock that up on the frame today.

Idea to try. Wrap a 'lever crank tightener' type of tiedown strap around the tire. The wider the better. Crank on it. Next, try a tube inside. When tire is as wide as possible, start inflating the tube. Good luck. By the way, why do you want something that wide on it?
