Newer carb but, you know....still chineese. The carb on my donor bike is possibly from a kymco. It's logo is on it. But a carb is a carb isn't it? No, there are all kinds of differences like jet size on the pilot and main, also the diameter of the carb makes a huge difference as to the velocity of the airflow...more is NOT always better depending on the type of engine and the level of tune. I am still running an 18 mm carb with a #35 pilot jet and #85 main jet. I am still at 49 ccs on the jug. Bill

As long as cables and everything line up...it should work.

I am still at 49 ccs on the jug. Bill What? What ya waiting fer ? An explosion maybe? (I hope not) I have been looking at those Airsal 72mm kits with the piston that is lighter than the stock 49cc piston but, every place I have found them no longer has them in stock. I am not ready to do a BBK just yet anyway but, I do like looking around and planning. Those kits were listed at like $165. That is about 1/2 the price of a brand new complete 72 cc engine from scrappys so, hard to justify putting that much into my older engine. Bill

here's were I am today. I put on another carb....bubkis. I removed the float from that carb and put it on my current carb along with a 79 main jet and I think a 35 pilot. I also put on the stock airbox. It started but it was still slow. Though gas in the float is a problem, apparently it wasn't THE problem. It takes off great but when I give it more throttle it seems like there is no reaction, it just continues along at 12mph or so. I raised the needle by moving down a notch. It seemed to help a little but not as much as I would like. I also noticed a whirring sound when i first start it. I'll look at the CVT tomorrow. Maybe the valves too. I dunno. It feels like it's not revving like it should. I brought up restrictions before but I don't think the Chinese 4 strokes were restricted. on the upside if finally doesn't leak oil (though I may have been putting too much in) and the engine is as quiet as it should be. My old engine was loud due to the broken exhaust stud. slowly but surely, Progress

Did you verify the float level?

Putting in too much oil will greatly slow you down...the engine can't rev up to where it is supposed to be. Please do NOT ask me how I know this, ha ha. It is good to measure exactly what is supposed to be in there before adding oil. I think it is 900 ml but do not quote me on this as I am at work and can't check my manual.

Adjusted the valves. They were a little tight. No difference. I took off the variator, 8.5 gram rollers up in there. Isn't that a little heavy for a 49cc?

Each scoot is different...but 8.5grams seems heavy. I am running 4.5gr my 72cc.

Well, I replaced the 8.5 with 5.5 and it helped quite a bit. My take off isn't as quick but I do reach 35 on the speedo eventually. So Im at 32 or so. I'm not tiny so without a little more tuning I can say that's not bad. At least better than before. I am hearing a whining from the cvt though. Belt going bad perhaps?

How are your engine RPM's? Usually lightening up the roller weights helps takeoff. Could be belt, does it have gear oil or motor oil in the gearbox?

I have 5.5g in mine and revs are still far too low. Take off revs are good but it drops to low when clutch pulley shifts. I have 4.5g in the mail.

I am running 4.5 gram sliders now and rpm's are just a bit too high. I was running 5 gram sliders but now am going to try my new 6 gram sliders.

I don't know if the 8.5 gram sliders had anything to do with my problems or not. My clutch was super stiff. I had a heck of a time pushing it together to loosen the belt. I don't know much about the background of this engine besides the original owner giving it to the guy I bought it from because he was tired of dealing with it. It could be totally stock for all I know. Once I hooked it all up it started up with no trouble. Maybe the original owner was fed up with poorly functioning variator and gave up. Oh well, his loss is my gain

I'm 39-40 easily with the 80cc BKK and 20mm carb, stock CVT and clutch, so if the engines running right, gotta be the tranny
