So if you have seen my various rants on the board, you'd know I have been working on a scooter for my daughter, who has Autism. She has been driving a pink ATM50-A1 TaoTao for about a year now, and now that she is used to the bike, it's time to upgrade the bike. The upgrade it is getting engine wise, is a very mild one. A BBK from scrappydogscooters, A9 Cam, Performance carb, Iridium plug. Had a tachometer installed for later tuning on the CVT. This is my kid's scoot, I'm not looking for 50mph, I'm looking for it's best powerband using the setup I have, with maybe some roller adjustments. Wanna see what the findings show initially before proceeding. So this transformation, is being Dyno tuned. This is my kid, don't wanna second guess my carb jet selection I made for her. But anyways.. The outside is getting it's own revamp. My daughter came up with a theme for it, and it is now getting customized vinyl graphics. It is based off of the Mario Kart character Toadette. Alot of progress has been made and I'll post updates and pics and what have you, but here are first pics of the "TOADETTE TAOTAO".

In case some are wondering about the legality of the lights, in my state, she may use green, yellow, and orange (amber), while driving, she may not use red or blue as these are designated safety and emergency colors. This includes pink and light blue, maybe white. She's fine with that and has decided she wants green as her underglow riding color. She can of course, still show them off, provided she is not driving it. So check your local laws if you get underbody lights!!

Nice large trunk on that scooter. I bought a trunk that fits a full face helmet from Parts For Scooters, and I am looking for a bigger one (carries 2 full face helmets) from Scrappydogs.

Do you have a link for the trunk? That looks like the one I want.

when you hit the dyno id be interested in hearing if the a9 cam moved the power band up in the rpms some. after installing mine (glixal a9) ive noticed my scoot likes light rollers and 8200+ rpms...and be glad your kid is still young and into scooters. my baby just turned 18 and came to visit dad today in hopes of me paying half on a car

I'll have to see what our schedules are and if we can coordinate like we did on the Spree. If we can, I'll record the dyno run for posterity's sake and post the video. I plan on doing CVT work later on in the spring, for now I'm just gonna have her use the stock rollers. The main reason behind the dyno is to fine tune the carb. Like I said, it's somewhat of a mild upgrade. It should pack a nice sassy punch off the line since I am not switching that muffler out, or the gears either, and that's what I am looking for. When she hits that throttle, I want that scoot to go without thinking twice. First step before any CVT tuning, is get that air/fuel tuned in perfect so that CVT changes and readings are more consistent. Might see if we can just leave the CVT cover off, so we can get a visual of where that belt is riding at specific RPM's. I don't plan on buying any aftermarket CVT components with the exception of sliders. Again, not looking for 50mph. Just looking for an optimal tune.

The toadette has risen !! I notice you removed the Tao Tao branding on the side aswell good call. Kind of lame, she can't use the pink, but I actually enjoy looking at the green on the bottom. Spots are perfect size! Tell her "the" female on the forum is jealous of her helmet! 😁 I just posted this pic on another thread.... as I'm in search of a new helmet. Can you pm me where she got the helmet from? It looks like a full face which is what I'm after.

Was that you, who said they owned a Dyno? I don't remember, but if not, what are they charging you to throw it up there?

Dyno runs normally run $60 an hour, I'm getting charged $50 an hour. My daughter is actually contributing a good chunk of her own money to the revamp. She's paying for the graphics and labor on the BBK/CAM/CARB. I'm throwing in the cost for the professional underbody LED installation and dyno tuning. I'm gonna foot the bill this time for the plastic restoration on the right side. She had it up on the side stand and a big wind gust took it and knocked it down, so it has (had), a crack in one of the plastic pieces and got a bit scraped up. When they took it off, it was almost in 2, so Drew and his guys worked their magic on it and got it back to normal. You can still see the line where it was cracked in the (2nd)image in the OP. Rather then do more extensive (and expensive) body work, they are gonna cover that up with vinyl for now. I can always order a pre painted one from TaoTao later on. Price is pretty cheap. But anyways, helmet can be found here: www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/z1r-strike-ops-helmet

you gotta hate those wind gust. ive had alot of damage done like that, busted mirrors, grips, fairings etc. tao tao wants $50 for the front fairing which is not too bad im just wondering what shipping might be. its good she willing to help pay, it teaches responsibility and its proof of her interest in the sport.

Oh she will probably never drive a car. She has a driver's learning permit in addition to the moped license. I have let her drive my wife's car before, a little Hyundai Accent. We drove the parking lot and grounds of the event center.. Yeah, she really can't grasp the concept, and it scared her too much. A scooter is different. It's like a bicycle without pedals, but easier. She caught on real fast.. well not REAL fast, but fast enough to pass her course and exam before her 16th birthday. The instructional course is usually taken by 13 and 14 year olds since Iowa allows 14-15 year olds to drive a scooter with a proper permit and exam. So she was like the oldest one there and the younger boys kind of teased her a bit because she didn't have her permit yet, but she passed.
Trust me, around this part of Iowa, ALOT of the kids drive scooters. She'll just happen to have a more unique scooter then everyone else, because it will be her main mode of transportation in life while all the other kids start driving cars. No biggy, Spencer is big (small), enough that you can get around almost all the town by walking, we live 1 block from a major 24 hour store, and only a couple blocks from other services her and her brother will utilize.
I told her if she takes care of this upgrade, the next one we will have done is maybe a Koso instrument panel so she can select an instrument panel color and get some cool features out of it.
So proud of her. And to think her very first solo ride was on my "HAWKEYES" Spree before it's transformation.

I love the flag on that spree xD She's doing good, actually way better than many people I see daily riding. She goes careful and not reckless, and that's good
