Grandad was hard to start ,the kick start was not returning to its rest position causing a half assed splutter and fail,a quick check revealed that the spring on the little gear was binding up a clean and lube sorted it.

That's cool. I bet you could improve the performance with a bit of modern technology.

That's no mileage. You must try harder.
Yamaha say from I think it's bikes from 1992, it's fine. I filled up the typhoon at half a tank, with super. Made a difference. But when I filled up last Friday with a full tank of super it transformed it. Take off from a stand still was twice as fast. Riding it for a couple of weeks. I had gotten used to the lack of performance.

I carry a kit bag to work and it always "perched" on the seat of the commute scoot,on grandad it lags behind loose and is uncomfortable. The solution was easy and came with the jog as a standard fit to support the rear light cluster, after cutting off the bracket here,s the upgrade. I will leave the rust spots as they are for now. Oops ran out of fuel a mile from home on Tuesday the gauge showed 3/4 full sloshed the tank around and limped him home, topped the tank up and it,s all good, but I need to fix that over sized filter so I have him stripped down and have drained/spilt the system just waiting for the fumes to clear may as well have a smoke and and a beer while I wait. The fix is done, the filter has been removed and an in line filter fitted, once the petcock dried out I found a surprising amount of debris around the filter, pictures later Geoff

How many times I went to turn it on to reserve, when it was already on. Well worth checking with all that inside.

Here,s what I remember, scoot started to play up just after the E10 fuel, bogging hard to start etc a real PIA when your trying to settle in at a new job, after countless carb cleans and fails I fitted a chinnerelli carb I had sitting on the shelf, success he ran strong until the enricher cut back and it bogged so I have unplugged the enricher and we have a good running scoot,it obviously needs jetting to suit the E10 but it will do for now.Just for kicks the exhaust worked loose so I lost a few days waiting for gaskets,Mrs H has no faith in grandad and even offered to finance a replacement, she,s not at her best for the 5am lift to work but I,m sure he,s good now, fingers crossed Geoff

That's one of the things people on old scooters have been saying. It's harder to start. Running both mine on premium now. My typhoon as been getting harder to start. Thought it was the leaky crank seal. But changing that and the spark plug made no difference. The little jet in the bowl was mostly blocked. Started right up this morning, after taking five minutes the last couple of day's.
