just so everyone knows the bet is being modified somewaht, i can buy the new scooter now and make the trip and then get the money back from the better or i can take my scoot, hate to sell her but was going to anyway, its up to me, and hotels are also allowed now at least one nighty has to be "scamping" tho Awesome ideas coming here is a pic of the new scoot im debating on right now i will call her sharky!

I think that style of 150 has no storage under the seat. At least the one I worked on didn't. Might wanna look into that. You'll need all you can get. The only bright side was that the carb and engine were easier to get at by just lifting up the seat.

All i can say is if something went wrong in here i would be SOL on the road, i have changed snowmobile belts before and i was a kid but i remember vaguely a lot of yelling and a large crowbar involved, i took these pics for those of you who KNOW what to do under there, how would i know when a belt let go anyway would i come to a screeching halt or lose all power ... I want to do this trip and i got that thing apart in like 5 minutes "roadside" simulation, the problem is there looks like a lot of stuff that could come falling out and never go back in, or am i just worrying myself for nothing, oh it helps if you REMOVE the kickstart arm to get the cover off took me a minute or so to figure that part out lol pics below ASSEMBLY UP CLOSE VIEW PULLEY (WITH VARIATOR BEHIND IT MAYBE???) OTHER PULLEY, NEEDS TOOL SPECIAL TO GET OFF SCOOT?) UP CLOSE BELT (Not sure if it is worn???) UP CLOSE BELT BOTTOM VIEW ROADSIDE BREAKDOWN SIMULATION VIEW

I forgot to add i want to learn all i can in here so feel free to help with anything i dont know, im the village idiot you guys be the village teachers, this is the only are except removing the crankcase internal that im unfamiliar with on my scoot, im hoping thats a good thing

how would i know when a belt let go anyway would i come to a screeching halt or lose all power ... Unfortunately I've snapped a lot of belts. I've never not known when it happened, I'll tell you that for sure. If you're lucky, it'll just snap and the engine will free rev (engine revs, no movement). There's a video of that happening to me below. If you aren't as lucky, it will get caught up in the rear pulley and lock the rear tire up so you skid to a stop or until it breaks free. You definitely know it when that happens. lol You can skip to about 1:30 if you just wanna see the belt snap and the pic of what you'll likely have to clean out. This might help you understand what's up in there a little better. ok i dont know if you all know him but greg at mainely scooters is only an hour away from me, i just chatted him up he was telling me how to remove a belt the "no tool" way just as practice, fyi he goes by the handle mainepeace under scootdawg forums
Im getting lots of info from everyone thanks again, im hoping with enough planning the hard parts will be what to pack and how to pack it not so much how to fix when the time comes!

I assume like this. I've never messed with the 150 CVT so I couldn't tell ya if that works for all of them or not. It sure doesn't go that easily with my 50s. Also, just FYI, make sure you have gloves for that if you do it on the side of the road. The CVT gets HOT.

Okay. You've made the first step. To answer your question, yes. Removing the kick start lever is a great idea! It's so great I'm not even sure how you got the cover off without removing it! The variator is behind the disc with the curved fins. As 90GTVert was saying, you need this tool (called a spanner wrench) to fit in those two little holes at the extremeties of the disc in order to keep it from turning while you use a wrench to undo the bolt: Alternatively, the impact wrench can twist that baby quickly and cleanly usually without the need for any other tool. Once that centre bolt is undone the belt can be removed. BTW, a broken belt results in the engine spinning wildly and the scooter slowing to a halt. The rear pully won't normally need to be disassembled unless your clutches wear out or you break a clutch spring or a torque spring. In that case you'll need the spanner wrench and/or the impact wrench to get that centre bolt off the clutch bell (as it's called). The inside of the assembly under the clutch bell is a bit more complex. Have a look at this video (it's of a 50cc GY6, while yours is a 150cc, but the principle is the same): That said, you can go ahead and look around Youtube for other tutorials (many can be linked from this very video). Those will certainly come in handy.

HOLY CRAP that was one chewed up belt lol, it DESTROYED it, question on the belts btw is it a good idea to spend the extra money on a belt like the one at scrappys, it claims "Gates Powerlink 743-20-30 For those of you who don't like fixing broken belts on the side of the road, spend the extra couple of bucks and get a Gates. $29.95"
Also i was unsuccessful at moving the belt with the no tool method, i did get the bell closed on the clutch with my hands so the belt was loose, however i was not able to slip it around the variator, though from that pic lol it looks like i wouldnt have to remove it, i just would need to put the new one on!

yeah it definitely did not come off that easy on mine, lol it wouldnt come off at all, well without the proper tool im going to button her back up for now, theres lots of pics and tuts for me to watch so im sure ill figure it out, gotta order that tool!

That video showing the "bare handed" belt change can only be done if the belt doesn't break. If it snaps, the rollers will get jammed up inside the variator so for a roadside change you have to have the tool to take off the variator nut or an impact. Belt size is 842-20-30 or 835-20-30. PS: You should reduce the size of your pics by 25-30% bro.

I've had lots of luck with that no-tool belt change. My secret is after it's loose, hang one little piece of it on the top of the variator drive plate, and then twist the drive plate forward. It'll pull the belt over itself and pop right off.

sorry bout the pic size fox, they are coming from dropbox, fyi i did get the belt off in my test, i pulled teh clutch wheel bell closed then pinched the belt and off it came, i just buttoned her back up and tried to kick her over, the kick starter is slipping now, not sure what i did to mess it up but its time to go back into her again i think, any thoughts, im sure its minor, im not getting into the variator today at all

As long as you have gloves along, it should be even easier, actually. The belt will be warm, and stretched slightly from the heat, so it should come off even easier. Just don't attempt it without gloves. Those CVT parts can get extremely hot.
