It's likely running a bit rich too,so the two stroke slobber will be worse, the key is dont let it leak, then that slobber will be exiting the tailpipe and peppering all of the 4 strokes behind you! Right! Exactly! When I bought it, I got it for cheap because it wouldn't run with the choke off. It had to be on... and even then it would die out if I rode it around the block with a big whooshing sound. But if you got it started with the choke on, the second you turned it off it would die. So knew I had a problem and figured it was an air leak. Today I went to hunt it down and I found all this. So it now has two problems. Once I get this oil sorted out I'll start working on that... right now it's hard to tell anything with all the gunk.

Pull that a/f meter off your GY6 and tune ... it's still got it's air leak problem, the original problem, after all this oil is sorted. I'm contemplating replacing the exhaust entirely once I find out what this exhaust is... I know it's aftermarket but Vespa exhausts aren't my expertise and it's not like it says Yoshimira on it or anything. I'd kinda like to be the one that knows what's on the bike. Also, I wonder how long a sensor would last on a 2t with that kinda exhaust. AFR sensors don't even like leaded gas.

On a 2T the sensor is meant to be installed to tune then pull of and plug the bung. I’m sure you could leave it on but the sensor will get oil build up on it and give false readings. You could go with egt just keep temps below the melting point of aluminum and your set.

Happypancake!! Thanks! but I got one... I used to have it rigged to a little battery and then spazter12 rigged it to a batter tender disconnect. So it's real easy to hook up to your battery and then you just zip tie all the stuff to your bike. ryan_ott yeah, that's what I do with my Ruck... just tune it and take it off. it doesn't really come out of tune and once it's in tune I don't need to see the reading anymore But I got some issues I have to work out before I get to that stage. This engine is filthy. Time to clean.

Did you rebuild the carb yet?A clogged main jet will give the same symptoms.. Not yet. I went out yesterday to hunt for leaks... to see if I could find something easy and if I'd even have to rebuild the carb. That's when I found a dead battery (and that battery is shot, the old owner told me, it's got to go) and all the oil. I guess I'll rebuild the carb anyway since I got that battery on order and I gotta look at my exhaust situation on Monday. I got some time before any of those solutions come in the mail. I'd like to get the new battery and use the electric start when trying to get it to run while it has issues. I've had to kick it for 10 minutes before it'll go before, and that's not fun. In previous threads I've mentioned the Vespa repair shop that's near me (I lucked out) and I'll go in there on Monday and see what's up. I know he orders from SIP all the time, so maybe I can get an exhaust order in. I don't like having other peoples aftermarket stuff... That's just my OCD.

Ordered a ROAD 2.0 exhaust from SIP. Hey hey Mr. Mailman! While the SIP road may help, it won't fix all of your seepage issues. fastidious bikes these are not. Here's my PX with a BGM Big Box installed. My bike is perfectly dialed in, and it still seeps a bit of unburned mixture. This gets all over the rear wheel, up in under the cowl... kind of everywhere. While it looks like you've got a bit more than normal going on right now, it's par for the course to seep some smudge from the exhaust mount. Also, I run a Shorai in mine as well, but since mine is kick only, it doesn't really have do much. Works fine though and weights nothing... however, if you ride with the standard battery and then the Shorai back to back, you can really feel how the added weight of the battery on the left side of the bike balances the engine on the right. Matt I thought about the weight, coming from a gy6 that's heavy on the engine side. I might make up for it with a 5 pound weight if it would help.

You get used to it fast, and it doesn't adversely affect the bike in any way. It's just something you can feel when you do a back to back comparison that is interesting to note because it's obviously an engineered balancing method. I had to pad the crap out of Shorai to make it fit however (with the included foam), so it's ugly AF, but it works great. Matt

Haha, yeah. Here's mine with all the ridiculous foam needed so that the battery strap will hold it in place. Matt

OK... I’m going to catch some heat for this so go ahead... but work has really picked up and I have no time to work on this project. After finding the Vespa garage down the street (it’s basically a guy working out of a barn) I decided to take it over to him to get the engine back up. I know, I know. But at this point it would be apart in my garage all summer, I wouldn’t get to ride it, and then summer would be over. I did this for two years with my Ruck, so I kinda know how it’ll work out. So I’ll take it in on Monday and see if he can get the engine running. At this point in time I have slightly more money than time. :/
