Yes he did, a pink one. He hasn't made a connector for the game boy yet so he has a donor scoot that its hooked up to and he plugged my ECU in and went through it. He can't tell if the ECU has already been derestricted but he could see it only had 43 hours on it. With 9500 miles on the scooter that would mean it had done them all at 200+mph. Its possible it had already been derestricted and had hours reset. I just hope it works.

Today I got the engine back together new compressor o-ring, Malossi reeds, Rollers, belt and fuel filter. After putting the ECU in I needed to reset the ECU errors on the dash and reset the service. I decided to program my cheap transponder key while I was there. Big mistake, it wasn't a legit key so it just sat on the screen: Tried pulling the battery, no luck. Tried pulling ECU, no luck. Texted the SR50 guru in Asheville and his fix was to get a legit transponder key. Thats what I get for being cheap. $32 later and 3 days shipping I should have it. Until then I'm dead in the water. The scoot does nothing. I should have waited until I had it running and took it out to see how it does. Maybe I'll put some body parts on until then.

Well I got the Aprilia key and stuck it in the antenna I pulled off the old lock set and it found it. It's smart again. I cleared all the codes again and reset the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It started up, though it hiccups for a few seconds then purrs like a kitten, no idle or A/F ratio to set. I took it out for a run up and down the street, it handled like s*** until I put air in the tires. I knew there was something I was going to do. It hit 32mph pretty easy and revved up nice. I pulled the plug and it looked a little rich but better that then lean. I may have over oiled the air filter, I'll look tomorrow. I decided it was safe to put the plastics on. That was a huge PITA. It's all set now and ready to run. Tomorrow I'll take it for a ride and see what it will do. More tomorrow with pictures.

Took it for a ride today and it runs nice. The temperature was 43 degrees so I didn't' go far. I got it to 43 mph on the guess-meter. I couldn't find any good long straightaways without traffic to really get it going. I was to frozen to take it to my favorite curves to see how it handles, maybe on a warmer day. When I got home it wouldn't start again, I guess I had ignored the low fuel light to long. I put a gallon of gas in and it started up.
One issue was when I start it the idle surges for a few seconds then settles down and purrs. It doesn't happen when it's warm. Here is a video:

I rode it to work today, both blocks. It runs well but has terrible acceleration, its like riding a 4 poke. The clutch engages at about 2800 rpm so its not in its power when you start moving. Definitely some CVT tuning there. The good news is the Malossi Multivar and Delta clutch fro the S50 will fit it so I can play and tune without buying anything. I did take the long way home a rode my favorite straight and level route and got it to 50mph not bad for bone stock 50cc it just took a while. It doesn't rev much past 8000rpm so I'm questioning the ECU being derestricted. Maybe the parts from the S50 will help with that. As I was turning down my street I noticed the handle bars were off just a little bit, maybe 3 degrees. First thought was bent triple tree. I put it on the lift and clamped the front wheel and lined the back wheel up on the lift and looked and it was off. I inspected everything I could and saw no damage or anything bent. I then grabbed the bars and turned them hard. It seems to have straightened it. Everything still looked good. I took it for short ride and all seemed better. I'll take it for a long ride this weekend and see if it holds.

I've been riding this some until the brake light switch on the front brake gave out. The rear brake switch wasn't working either so it was impossible to start. I got a replacement switch and it still seems to be a problem. Its intermittent. If I squeeze really hard it seems to work so I suspect the plunger is too long so it needs more travel to close the switch. I forgot to mention I had replaced the bent brake levers with OEM ones and it may be that the nub for the brake switch is too long. I'll pull the switch tomorrow and see if that's it or if its a wiring issue.
I had heard these were not happy to start in the cold, I would have thought fuel injection would help that. I didn't believe it until it happened last night in 34 deg weather. It was a no start after work. I rolled it into the theater and walked home. I went by this morning and it started up. Made a believer of me. Maybe it will get its own heating pad so I can ride when its colder.

I got the brake switch sorted out. The rear one is working again so I left it. The front one I sanded the tip down a bit or should I say too much, the brake light stayed on. A dap of hot glue and its good now. I need to buy a new one and not be so aggressive.

The film festival finally left and I have a few days off. I've had a Malossi Multivar MHR 2000 sitting on the counter for a month that finally got opened.
Its a nice looking variator teflon coated big guides to get the pulleys closed. I put it on with the 4 gram rollers and purple contra spring. Buttoned it up and took it for a ride. It was a dog, it was like starting in 2nd gear. Opened it up and found the belt sitting down in the pulley. The clutch was engaging at 3200 rpm. I tried stiffer clutch springs and got it engaging at 4000rpm. The engine revved to 10,000 rpm, but still a dog. I went back to the stock variator with a thinner and longer boss with 5gram rollers and kept the purple contra and yellow springs. It was better than it was before but the belt was still too short. I did some research, the stock belt is 810 and there is a Malossi belt that is 820-18.5-30. I'm thinking it would be better but still a little on the short side. Maybe 825-18-30 would be the magic size. I'll let you know how it works out.

So I was getting the dreaded error code ECU14 that's a bad fuel pump. This was the second time so I decided I needed to look at it. These are very specific high pressure pumps. None of the SR50 gurus have found an after market replacement. A new one is $400-$600 so I decided it was time to fix it. They are a bitch to open but once open there is a fix of putting a female wire connector on the pins so the pins make solid contact. Instead of explaining here is a video:
Of course when I opened it I found the fix had been done but without the solder. So I soldered it up and then went to put it back together. Of course I managed to break the plastic clips that held the end cap to the motor and I busted the plastic that held the connector from the harness on. All works now but I'm probably one big bump from loosing the connection.
The scoot runs better so what ever I did works. But I do have a search for a replacement.

I was able to get a new Malossi belt that's a little longer by 10mm from the stock. I pulled the CVT cover and put the Multivar back in with the new belt. Still a dog, barely got to 35mph and it was like I was starting in 3rd gear. the marks on the variation left about 10mm and there was as much left to the outside of the clutch: I went ahead and put the stock variator in with the Malossi belt and it was a world of difference. I did a run on the only level straight road in this town and hit 48mph one way and 50MPH the other. It feels like its in like 1 1/2 gear when I start, better than before. The problem is that the belt is about 1mm wider that the boss so it never sits down on the boss. Either need spacers or a narrower belt. What I have now is an 820X18.5 I'm thinking the one Brent uses that's for Overange which is 816X17.5 they are both 30deg. The big difference with the Multivar and stock is I only have 3.8gr. for the cultivar and 5gr for the stock. Maybe I should get some 5 and 4.5 grams for the Multivar and see where I am. With spacers I could play to find that perfect place to be. Time to look for spacers.

I found spacers at McMaster-Carr that will work. I also discovered that the rollers for the S50 and SR50 are the same size and that I have a very nice assortment. I should have the spacers by Thursday and I'll be off and tuning.

I was able to find some tuning time Friday, it was a little wet so I was only able to work on take off. Take off is the biggest problem right now so I'll work on speed when I'm happy with that. So I opened it up and pulled the stock variator off and played with the Multivar. I tested the belt with the pulley closed and it will get full travel plus some, with my oil pump there I really need to keep the belt travel no more than the variator. As I put the shims on I found 4 of them let the belt be all the way down and I still was able to get the nut on: I went ahead and put the shims on the back side so I wouldn't have problems with them binding or disturbing the belt. I tried the 5gram rollers and it was not great, slow take off but 9-10K rpm. I then changed to the 4.5 gram rollers. When I opened it up I saw I had perfect travel on the clutch: The 4.5 gram were worse but 10k rpm so I jumped to 7.2 gram and I was much better. The ride was okay but it would decelerate funny. I then remembered I was running the purple contra spring that came with the multivar. I of course was out of time. I have a lighter contra spring to go to so my next tuning I'll go to that and try the the 5gram rollers. I'm tempted to pull the Delta clutch off the S50 and play with that but I really like the way the S50 runs. Maybe when I sell the BV250 I'll get a Delta clutch for the SR50. I'm off Tuesday so I'll have plenty of time to play.

The fuel injection, ECUs, pumps and thing-ma-jiggers seem way complex for a 50cc scoot. Have you thought about going carburetor? It just seems like you’ve had one headache after another. I was thinking the CVT issues could possibly be connected to how the ECU controls the revs.
I do also understand though it’s a useful thing on learning different set-ups/tuning having EFI, I just don’t think I would ever have the patience for it especially if it was a daily rider. I just hope Aprilia nailed their LC design spot on. After all the issues I’m seeing here with leak, head gasket issues on LC conversions, they better have damn sure got their motor right (Aprilia)

Piaggio has definitely figured out the water cooled engine and just shrank it. My only big issue has been the fuel pump, it's is the weak link in the engineering. If I stayed stock I would have a very nice 40-45mph scoot but who wants that. My plan is to get the CVT nice and tuned then add a performance pipe to it, retune the CVT and get that all dialed in. Malossi makes a 70cc kit for these that are almost $400 but includes a Piggyback ECU that keeps the injector open just a little longer to richen it. Then Of course back to the CVT. Then with all of that power I can upgear it and have a very fast little fun scooter. This is not my daily rider, I have several other scoots that fill that need, this is my make it loud and annoy the neighbors scooter.
