I had decided that my New Years resolution was no new scoots until I got rid of some. Of course I was having one last look at CL on New Years Eve when a 2011 SR50 came up for $350. It was missing some of the front end plastics and was looking a little rough but was an SR50 Ditech which was a scoot I had been looking for. It was still 2018 so my resolution was still safe so I humored myself and made the call figuring that it was seized or carbureted. The owner said no it ran and he had ridden it a little, so off my dog and I went with groceries in the back of the van. The story was that he bought it in a lot at an impound auction with 22 Tao Tao's. He figured he would fix them up and CL them. He quickly realized that they weren't worth the effort they were in not good shape. He found someone that would pay $100 per Tao Tao to take them off his hands, but that he would fix the SR50 up. He ordered a new key switch to replace the one without a key. He then realized he was over his head and he should just quit while he was ahead. He was a great guy and had several ATV's in his shop. His father rebuilds heavy equipment so he knew what he was doing with those but 2 stroke scooters was a new world. While I was there he started it despite the fact the exhaust was hanging by one stud. It was load but ran okay. So $300 I had a new scoot to play on. Sorry no pictures.
When I searched the VIN it turns out its a 2014 with 9000 miles on it. It looked like it had been serviced and treated okay, except for it went down on its right side at some point. The right side damage was to the front plastics and probably knocked the exhaust loose. Of course instead of weatherproofing the garage yesterday I got it on the lift and pulled some plastics to see what it needed. I got the exhaust back by replacing the bent exhaust stud and got it bolted back on its mount. It started right up and ran well. I haven't taken a ride yet so I'll have to see. I do need to decide if it will be a naked scoot or get new plastics for it. Maybe it will just be topless with the front naked and the back not as naked. I'll ride it some before I put anymore effort into it.

When I got home from work I poked around a bit and discovered what needed replacement. I figured the fuel filter and I was right, it was the original: Next was the variatior and belt. The wedding ring was gone so it had been somewhat derestricted. The rollers were getting flat, the belt showed wear, the slides were in tough shape but everything else looked okay just needed cleaning: I got what I needed on order from AF1 and scooterpartsco and should see them next week. Today on eBay I found the front plastics in good physical shape they just need paint and were only$58 shipped for both pieces. A new rear bulb and this will be on the road. More when I get to it.

Thank you all. JW, I have never seen a Jog down here but if I do I'll pick it up for you. Geoff, it's still has all of its stickers and it says don't use anything over 90 octane. I don't think its US 90 either. I'll investigate more but thanks for the tip. Aerox, I hope it's as good as I think it is. It's pretty well built so I think it may be.

Sunday I scrubbed all of the road dirt off the frame and plastics. There are a lot of plastics: Thats only half of them. I plan on taking Linseed oil to the sun faded parts to make them new again. The frame is well built. The rear wheel got buggered up when the exhaust was hanging by the bungee cord, it should sand out and need painting. The fuel injection is at the head with an air injector to to add compressed air into the cylinder. The oil injection goes into the rear of the crankcase to oil the crank and bearings then get sucked into the cylinder. Here are some shots of the injectors and throttle body: Lots of security screws and tore to keep the casual owner from playing. I decided to check the air compressor To be sure it was clean. It was in great shape except the o-ring was a little sketchy. I tried to find one locally and they are all to fat so I ordered a new one from AF1: There is supposed to be a restrictor plate on the reed block so I bulled the intake and found it gone but while looking at the reeds saw that the corner of one was chipped so I ordered a Malossi set from Scooterpartsco: It might have been okay but I figured that while I was there I should spend the time. It is nice that parts are readily available for this unlike some of my other scoots. Maybe next week I'll have it on the road.

I got more done yesterday. I linseed oiled the black plastic to get it black again. here is a before and after: Before After I replaced the plug, it was pretty gone. They come stock with a Champion plug but the tuners on Apriliaforum swear by a plug Piaggio lists as an alternate, an NGK ZMR7AP. It has a platinum electrode. The plug that was in it was a CR8E though the alternate Piaggio lists is a CR8EKB which is a 2 strap plug. I'll see if the tuners are right. Here is a picture of old and new: I decided to look at the injector hoping for the best and was surprised: It wasn't all carbon corroded but surprisingly clean. Today was errand running day because I go back to work tomorrow. I did get insurance and tags for it so when the parts I'm waiting for come in I'll be good to test drive it legally.

Nice Find Bro! Fuel injection is cool looking. I did not know there is air injection also.
Gonna let me ride it?LoL

When I get it on the road I was hoping to bring it down so we can go riding.

Apparently this needs the as part of the fuel injection system. I try plugging the intake port for the compressed air and see what happens.

Yep,its needed for the injector,I remember folks putting a small inline water filter(for an air compressor)between the air pump and injector to keep the moisture from trashing the injector...

I have seen that. When I pulled my compressor it didn't have the crap on it that I saw in those postings.
I had my ECU derestricted today by a guy that is a SR50 expert. He had 3 runners and about 5 others in various states of undress around his place. None of his had the water filter on them that I saw. I'll see what happens when I get it running.
