My wife from afar says that your gears sound like mine when they were brand new she was walking by and heard the video .

Ok got the Vapor fully installed and took some pictures of the plug when I removed it to put the temp sensor in. This was a brand new plug that I put in at the same time as the BBK so this is what it looks like after only a couple runs around the neighborhood. Speed sensor installed. I used the bolt magnet to replace one of the rotor bolts and then used the mount available on Treatland that I purchased with the Vapor to mount the sensor to one of the caliper bolts. I found a nice spot in the ignition wiring for 12V battery source that I wired the Vapor to. All mounted and turned on! I added another 1/2mm shim to the variator boss and now my sharpie marks look great. So in the end I don't have any shims behind the variator and have just a hair under 1.5mm in total shims on the drive boss to get the belt all the way down.

My temp sensor that came with the Vapor wasn’t working as I think I bent it too much but anyway got a replacement sensor and now I am running a BR9HS plug. I think I read the BPR series is extended electrode?

My wife from afar says that your gears sound like mine when they were brand new she was walking by and heard the video . Haha ok good to know. I’ll run around on these more and see how the noise changes over time. I definitely notice the loss in torque but honestly the low end now feels like it did stock without the BBK installed it’s just that now my top end is higher. I might try playing with clutch springs and weights to see if I can get it to feel similar to before the gears were installed but probably will just wait until I put the pipe on as i just want to ride a little now. Been wrenching a lot recently and time to just ride. 🙂

Here are the pics from my gear install. I used 14/42 Jasil pre-pressed gears but unfortunately the pre-pressed gear was not the correct size to fit in the stock Zuma bearing so I had to press it out anyway and press in the stock one to the new Jasil gear so buying pre-pressed does not mean you don't need a press when installing on the Zuma unfortunately. I ended up purchasing the 6-ton bench top press from Harbor Freight ($79) and it worked great despite me reading you need a 12-ton press online. Since I had strange noise issues originally and pulled everything out and re-pressed I was definitely glad I purchased the press as going to a machine shop (none are close by) each time would have taken me much longer. Now I have a press handy for other projects in the future. Gear box cover removed. Pictures of the gear you have to press out and noting the stock gap space to make sure it's maintained when pressing into the new gear. The 6-ton bench press from Harbor Freight setup and ready to press out the stock gear. Time to press in the new gear! New gear pressed in and stock gap maintained. Had to press in the bearing on the drive shaft and then also used the press to get it seated into the gear case cover. I completed the install by refilling with about 120ml of Bel Ray hypoid 80w90 gear saver oil after putting everything back together.

Nice job. So the head was pressed on to far when you got it?

Nice job. So the head was pressed on to far when you got it? No it was pressed just fine but the smaller intermediate gear shaft that was pressed in was too large for the bearing on my Zuma. The stock smaller gear on the Zuma has a smaller shaft on it so that is why I had to switch it out with my stock gear. I did read here that pre-pressed gears might be meant for the older vertical Zumas but not the horizontal ones. www.49ccscoot.com/manuals/Gear%20Installation%20Tutorial.pdf (page 4 #7)

I have been riding and got used to the gear noise now. I played with the Polini main jet kit I have to see if I could fine tune some things and ended up the 88 Polini was too rich but the 86 seemed to work well with the stock pipe. I also switched back to the stock 44 pilot jet and changed my air mixture back to 1.5 turns out and the low to mid throttle transition improved for me so I’ll keep the stock pilot in.
With the gears my top speed is close to 46mph now which is only about 2-3 mph higher than before the gears so I’m wondering if that is just because of the stock pipe as I was expecting more from the 30% increase in gear ratio.
Will have to put on the Yasuni R next and see how my top speed increases with that. My goal is 50+ but honestly thought I would get that without the Yasuni R and the Yasuni would just push it more to 55+.

Stock pipe doesnt really rev past 9k rpms with any power . The Yasuni R will push 10 k rpms .
For me the gears added 6 mph . It was my last mod after malossi kit ,next r pipe ,variator When I swapped pipes back to stock pipe .I did drop down to high 40's from mid 50's .

The Yasuni R will fix the Gear Noise .

It depends on the gearing you go for. But if the bikes is only designed to go 40, then a 20% increase will only get you 8 MPH. Once the variator if fully closed at 20-25mph the only way to go faster is higher revs. The Yasuni will sort that. 😁

I also put in 5.5gr roller weights and went to yellow springs on the Malossi clutch so we will see how that works out.
