Ideal setup is piston crown edge lining up with bottom of transfer ports at BDC and around .7 to.8mm squish on the head at TDC..Sometimes thats hard to get, but worth a try...

BDC and piston to head contact. I need to do some clearance checking. I also need to find my bese gasket collection

This is the eBay piston in the Polini cylinder. Polini exhaust flange shows that I’m a dodo as when I reassembled the second cylinder I used the straight holes rather than the modified angle flange holes. Looks like I had an exhaust leak which probably made my life harder. I’ve started working under the scooter from the side away from the pipe so I never saw how bad the fitment was. Adjustments have been made. The piston to piston comparison is the Stage6 on right vs the eBay on left with pin through both.

Well, idling and moving around at 30 mph isn’t the same as scootin’. Four soft seizes later in a 5 mile ride have me questioning “half measure” repairs. If I was stranded in Africa running from drug lords yea I’d be grateful for a running engine.
I’m not.
I’m running from my own thoughts and only wind therapy seems to leave them behind.
I’m gonna attempt to stack some more base gaskets since the ports seem to be very much not open at BDC and see if that helps. At least it ran enough for me to find out it doesn’t.

My best advice right now would be to slow down and take the time to do the best you can getting it together. Check everything you can. Make decisions based on measurements, like what is port timing, what is squish, where are the ports exactly and maybe what is cranking compression. Check the ring end gaps. Maybe check piston to cylinder clearance with feelers. Go over the fuel system. Something is wrong if you keep seizing and seizing. I'd also consider an airbox, because pod filters are harder to tune with and react more to weather changes.
I get the scoot therapy. I love to ride too, but you'll get a lot more riding in if you can get this figured out.

Learning to tune carbs is tough enough when using an airbox. Learning to tune carbs starting with a pod filter is madness. Stop the madness, put a proper air box on it. I cant tell you how much of my time was wasted in my early tuning years effing around with setups using some type of filter, such as a pod that provides little if any regulation of the air going into your engine.

I’ve used the same carb and filter setup for the last two years. Have had very little issue with performance on a “running” engine even going from cold weather to hot. My recent issue I’m pretty sure was caused by myself not seeing the exhaust flange was leaking. I believe I have that issue straight now but using this generic piston is causing me headache. I’m also using a honed cylinder that had fingernail catchable scratches in the wall. I’m just bandaiding along trying to make the best of a less than ideal situation. Documenting here so I can remember what I’ve done and for y’all’s general amusement.
Seriously though I do appreciate that it gets read and suggestions come in. Things like pinning two pistons together to compare are very useful. I’ll eventually quit F-ing around with my broken bits and pieces and move back into regular operation. The first Polini Corsa cylinder (used) set lasted a good while. The caster 927 was its undoing. The second (new) Corsa not so much. The scorch marks on the exhaust flange tell the tale of an exhaust leak. I’m assuming it was sucking in through there also and that’s what caused my issues more than mixture or oil choice. Every time I think I know what I’m doing I find out I don’t. The wife blames my need for speed. Asks why I’m not content to go 25mph. Oh look, I’ve rambled. Sorry.

Yes it's that easy. We all just be happy with 25mph.

OH MY!! PS, Dont slap it together, check as above, transfers flush at BDC,then adjust squish to right dimension..

Can we persuade you to use an airbox this time around..

Can we persuade you to use an airbox this time around.. I guess if I really must. I did well with the used Polini cylinder. Ran that for a year but my undoing was the caster927. I screwed up with the new one by not having a good exhaust seal. That caused me sadness.

BTW, which kit is that?
