I took out the 80 main and put an 85 in. Seems better at high rpm. It’s sustainable. Maintains 50 easily at 9,000 rpm.
Has trouble gaining the rpm though, stumbles and falters in that grey area from 7-9k. I’m sure it’s the rejetted stock carb. It was never intended for this.
I’m headed over to the used parts folder.....

Sounds like your needle may need to be raised up a smidge. I use this picture for reference constantly when tuning a carb. You still using the airbox right?

I’m using the stock Keeway replacement carb and factory air box. A new tunable carb is still in my future. I am able to change out main jets in this carb but that’s it.

I don’t think the needle is movable like in other carbs.

Ok. Little update here. I put in a 85 main jet, I felt as if the scoot was starving on the top end. That made the top end burble a bit better. Then an hour later my idle turned to absolute shit. No amount of screwing around would fix it. Ok, I gave up and took the carb off completely. Took it apart all the way. Sprayed carb cleaner in every hole I could find. Even pulled the needle out of the slide. Despite me thinking the needle was fixed on this Chinorto carb it has five grooves in it and a clip. Since it’s only a 14mm on a 70cc sport cylinder I went for full rich. Position 5 to make sure I’m not starving it. Upon reassembly and idle tuning things ran much better. There had to be dirt or something blocking the idle passageway. Still have a bit of a burble stumble when transitioning from idle to the 7k load rpm and then it settles in. Power comes on stronger at 8-8,500rpm. More tuning and playing to come. Rode it around 10-15 miles tonight. 34°f here and there is still snow melting which refreezes after dark so I’m kinda timid about areas I don’t know well.
My shopping list has a two terminal coil, which seems harder to find? Lighter variator rollers and stiffer clutch springs.
Zino I didn’t forget the Naraku port map. It’s on my list of things to do.

My shopping list has a two terminal coil, which seems harder to find? If you get a 1 terminal, the ground from the 2 terminal can attach to the core/base.

Do you have a CHT gauge? Friends dont let friends tune without a Temp gauge.

Do you have a CHT gauge? Friends dont let friends tune without a Temp gauge. No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. My speedometer cluster has a provision for a temp gauge, I’ve even had them in my cart online but they’ve never made it to checkout.

Installed a 19mm Dellorto Clone carb I received from PinkScoot this weekend. Started on it Friday night, I was busy all day Saturday and half of today and couldn’t tinker with it. Today I got it running and a throttle cable made up that works ok. Single cable from the carb to the throttle. Bike definitely rips better than it did. I need to do some coil plug wire work next and source some choke parts. Idle seems good though and WOT seems ok when the plug wire is on tight.

Everything you need for a Dellorto carb is available at Treatland. They are great people though I think they have huffed to much 2T smoke. They also have a Secret Scooter Section just for us. Now you need to learn the finer points of tuning a carb.

Soooo Yesterday I decided to try and adjust the carb some to fix the low and mid speed chugginess of the engine. Runs great at WOT and 75%+ but below that it’s missing and sputtery. Pulled the seat bucket and looked and the air box wasn’t on the intake of the carb fully. So it was sucking raw unrestricted air. Damn. Ok. Got air box back on fully and started to mess with adjusting low speed/idle mixture screw. The struggle is real. I tried in, out, all over and it made very little difference. Pulled the carb, dumped it and sprayed cleaner through all its holes and passages. Pulled the idle jet, no decernable markings. Pulled out a 45(?) damn those numbers are small. Installed that. Reassembled. Tried adjusting everything again. Still, several turns of the screw in/out make very little change. Went on a test ride now that the air box is totally installed and BLAH! Went from an easy 50mph bike to a stumble box that has trouble making 20mph. Pulled the 84 main jet and put in a 78. I need to broaden my jet arsenal. (I know PinkScoot, Treatland. I’ve been dragging my feet, sorry) The 78 main made it at least rideable but only just.
Theory- with the open intake or no restriction the fuel mixture is leaner. With the air box installed tightly there is more restriction and the mixture gets richer all around. Does this sound logical?

After scrolling up I observed that I hadn’t updated the thread in the rides after I got the 19mm carb running ok.
The idle was ok, high speed 85-100% throttle very good but 74%down to idle under load was burbling and sputtery. This may have been my no air box causing it and my own doing. Still though the 84 main jet would push me easily at 50mph up a grade. Power curve was steep from 7-10krpm below 7 was a bit dopey. Now with the air box fully installed I gotta start over. 😞

That's right. You are going to be buying a jet pack to get it sorted I think.

......................Theory- with the open intake or no restriction the fuel mixture is leaner. With the air box installed tightly there is more restriction and the mixture gets richer all around. Does this sound logical? You are correct. With the air box installed there is LESS air coming in, so always make sure the air box is properly connected. Consistent air flow is critical. Also make sure the choke is off, I cant tell you how many times I forgot to turn the choke off while trying to tune a carb. It happens because I will often pull the choke as I am riding on tuning runs to see the effect more fuel has on the tune. Please list all carb parts when you get a chance.
