I can't believe I'm going to do this but I'm going to split these cases to install this seal. What a pain, but hopefully this will work. Somehow this seal just simply won't install without tearing.
I'm building this motor out stock for the ZX, so I need to take the new cylinder off anyways.

That's what I was using, a piece of PVC and an end cap to hammer on. The pipe sat right in the middle of the seal, shouldn't have been an issue.

You need to press on the outside edge of the seal. I have a seal driver tool, but a socket just smaller than the seal works great. I use rubber grease to lubricate the seal when fitting.

I installed plenty of seals this way with no issue, I'm not sure what's different this time. I'm thinking I'll just split the case and be done with it. It will give me a chance to cut the boost port and do some flowing in there. I've purchased like 8 seals for this thing by now

Bad news bears.
I went to tighten my flywheel nut with my torque wrench and the nut went righty-loosey. That's not so good! I had my torque wrench set at 29ft/lbs, the spec listed in the Honda Dio service manual. Stock nut, stock crank. Not sure how it happened, maybe my torque wrench is way out of spec? I'm not sure.
Fortunately I have a spare crank and the weather has been great! With my new mini TV setup and speakers the time Flys by in the shop. Apart comes the motor once again.

If that's a mhr crank check the ramp plate splines on the variator side B4 u install the crank. My crank had defective splines. I didn't notice it until after installing the crank and putting my CVT parts on. I also had the crank sitting on my shelf for over a year....

I took the motor out and broke it all the way down but left the gearbox intact. I put a new gasket in there and I didn't want to tear it by opening her up. Getting the old crank out proved.....more difficult than expected. I ended up having to drill out the end of the crank and nut to get the nut off the stripped crank threads. The flywheel threads were also messed up, I'm not totally sure why. I never messed with them so I'm guessing the prior owner may have marred them up? It wasn't too big of a deal fortunately. Some good pliers and some gentle taps with a soft mallet broke the lock on the crank taper. I also found the root of my torn seal problem. After I removed the crankshaft I noticed some casting flash on the very edge of the bore for the seal. Everytime I tried to press a seal in the casting flash would grip and tear the rubber on the oil seal. I broke out some 600 grit sandpaper to remove the flashing and then some red Scotch Brite to bring the bore to a smooth consistent surface. Maybe most importantly, this bad boy came in for the Honda Dio Baja. I also picked up a sweet pair of Pit Vipers to complete the shreddy 80s look. The jacket was a promotional item Honda gave out when people purchased Bajas at dealerships.
