Howdy all. Recently picked up a 05 zuma off marketplace for $350 that needed a little love. I had a 09 that I modded a little & have regretted selling it since I did. Scoot had a Leo ZX that was wire tied on & a broken 2 shoe clutch. I have currently added a top trophy black 70 kit, 3 shoe 105mm clutch, yellow contra, yellow clutch springs. I’m currently running a 5/6 gram roller mix but have some 6g sliders on the way. New boppers & Doppler 15/50 gears are also headed this way. My 09 would hit a little over 50mph no problem. I’ve tried to replicate that but with the shorter gearing I’m only getting a touch over 40mph on this one. I’m also running the sock carb with Yamaha 84 jet. I never upgraded from that on my last one but think I’d like to this time. Really leaning towards a dellorto 17.5. Mainly because I like the convenience of electric choke & oil injection. Is it worth doing in my case?

That sounds like it will be a beast. Don't be a fraud of the manual choke. Get a cable and mount it on the handlebars or some other convent place. The PHBG 19 is a great carb.

If you are still running the standard exhaust, I probably wouldn't get a bigger carb. These kits are all about torque, and without an expansion chamber exhaust wouldn't see much gain. The 17.5 Dellorto is a good carb though it you want to get one.

It would make a difference then. I noticed a big improvement in mine when going to a 17.5 from stock. Much more top end. If you are still running the stock jet. It must be very lean now.

Running a 84 main jet from Yamaha instead of the stock 80. Snorkel removed from the air box with a new filter. Also raised the needle one notch & set the air screw at 1 turn out.

Here she is. Took her for a speed run today & hit 43.67mph on the flat. I weigh 260lbs so I felt like that is decent. When I get the boppers installed I’ll do it again & see if I get any improvement. Then will do the same when the sliders come in, & last when I install the 15/50 gears.

Low 40's with a 2005 sounds about right with the Leo vince zx . If you want more Top End . A carb will help support the exhaust and kit and get you a few more rpms up top and give you better take off . The 2005 14.6 final gear ratio holds you back the 15/50 gears will add 6-8 mph by themselves .

Got the new shoes put on this evening. 2 big screwdrivers & a ratchet strap had it done in about an hour. It was after dark so I didn’t take it for a spin. The rear shinko knobby was about half worn but the front stocker you could see the air in LOL. I figured low 40’s was about right with the gearing. My old 09 with the same setup was good for 50-52 cruise. I was about 35lbs lighter then however.

Took for a ride today. Same road, same outfit LOL. 44.84mph is what it did. So a little over 1mph for the new tires. Still waiting on the gears & sliders. If I get a delltoro 17.5 can I use the auto choke off the stock carb or do I need to get a new one?

Got to ride it today. Torque driver definitely took the shift out. It’s just nice steady rpm with no mid range drop. Put the sliders in & took it to the same road & it hit 46mph. I’d like to try the steeper grooves on the torque driver but didn’t today. Almost seems like 5 or 5.5 sliders might be better than the 6’s.
