You will need 16 x 13 sliders . With your current set up 5 gram to 6 gram would be the range I would stay between . You can still run the stock yamaha belt It will work well with the Sport Malossi and Polini Variators.

Do you feel like one is better than the other?

Did some tuning today. Bumped up to my 102 jet. Temps are fine but I felt like it could use some tranny love. Changed the torque driver ramp angle & it helped some. I then installed the Leo Vince rollers which I think are 4.3. It helped the engine stay in the power band better. I’m pretty heavy so I suppose I’m just pulling the rpm’s down. I did lose about 1.5mph compared to the sliders but better on hills.

I have seen many recommend the Polini Hi speed vario as the best vario for minarellies... I tried the polini, top performance trophy and malossi vario and they are all very similar with almost no difference in top speed. The top perfomance vario has a longer and smaller diameter drive boss in comparison with the polini. You will need shims for adjusting the drive boss lenght if you get the polini or malossi because the drive bosses are not long enough and you start will be terrible if you do not adjust it with shims,

I agree with Nikola ,Shims do make a differnece to get full belt travel out of the variator . Performance was similar for both polini & malossi Buy the cheaper one that you can find

I have shims. I played with it more today & ended up dropping the main from a 102 to a 95. That’s like a 87.5 down to 84.5 dell jets. I couldn’t break 300, it was peaking in the 280’s. Went to a 98 first but could only get it up to around 305. I was able to hit 320 now but that was running it hard. It’s also seems to pull much better now. I’d like to be able to cruise around 50. It’s doing 45-46 now so I’ll order a variator & hope that’s it for now lol.

So top performance, stage 6, polini, or malossi sport variator? I also thought about stepping up to either the malossi or stage 6 overrange variator. I like the electric start but if you gain a lot more I could give it up.

I run the budget overrange that was discovered by ryan_ott 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/24543/top-performance-td-belt-lengthI used the same polini belt he found with the malossi sport variator . It gave me a lower gear for better take off top speed over the malossi variator alone was similar or a small plus . When you drop the e start the cylinder does spin up faster since you took weight off the flywheel for better take off and I noticed a couple hundred more peak rpm that gave me more top speed .

Went ahead & ordered a malossi multivar & some 4.5 rollers as well. I’ve been wanting to try a malossi white contra & it came with one so that was the deciding factor. Hoping for a few more mph. Anything else will be icing on the cake.

The Malossi Multivar is a great variator. A little dearer in price than the Polini ones. But they seem to wear much better, and last longer.

I got the variator installed today & did some tuning. Best setup I can come up with is no shims, 7g rollers that came with it, yellow contra, factory belt. I tried a mix of 4.5/7 rollers & the white contra with a mix & straight 7g. Came back to 7g & yellow. I wouldn’t say I picked up any top speed. I have a solid 4mm left at the top of the variator. I even tried it with a brand new top performance belt. Factory belt ride all the way out on the rear pulley & gives the best take off & higher top speed. Seems like maybe a little smoother acceleration but that’s it. I’m saying not worth the money unless I can tune it a little better. Can I run dr pulley sliders in it & see if they push the belt out a little further?

That's a lot of difference between the weights if you only have 4.5 and 7g weights. Even 1/4g Can't make a difference to really fine tune a setup. That's why it's good to have a bigger selection of weights, or a tuning kit to really get the most out of it.

I have a bunch of weights for the factory variator but not for this one. I don’t think I can get the belt to ride any higher unless it were longer but then it’d be too long I believe. I play around with it more but I should have just got a yasuni r LOL.

I’ve got a set of 6.5, 7.5 rollers, & a new oem belt on the way to see if I can squeak a few more mph out of it. I’d really like to be able to cruise at 50mph on the flat. The next step will be a yasuni r.
