Yasuni R is a great pipe. I got an 8mph gain just changing from a next R, to Yasuni R.

That’s a real gain. I’m still running the stock crank but from my research a top touring kit & yasuni r should stay right around that 10k crank limit. Also is there anything to gain swapping my stock drive face for a malossi?

You won't really see any gain from just the drive face. Unless yours has excessive wear.

If you want to cruise at 50mph I recommend you put longer gears into your gearbox. I have a Zuma and I am running an Athena sport kit, Tpr variator, longer gears. The carb, airbox, pipe, drive belt and torque drive on my Zuma are all stock components. With the mentioned setup I am able to cruise at 80-82kmh (50-51 mph) sitting upright on flat roads. The top speed of my Zuma is 93 km/h with me (80 kg rider). Just keep in mind that I achieved a 50mph cruising speed without reving over 8600-8700rpm because of the stock pipe. Your setup is much more capable and you should be seeing cruising speed of above 50mph if you put in longer gears.

4 Mm is way to much you should be able to get under 2mm with the Malossi variator I have the matching malossi variator fan with the malossi variator . Those couple of mm really rob your top speed .

A number 2 pencil lead or less is what will give you the best Top speed This is with the standard yamaha belt malossi fan and variator combo before final shimming to dial it in farther .

Yes I agree. I was getting that with the factory variator but not this one. I swapped contras thinking maybe that would make a difference with no luck. That’s why I asked about the malossi drive face thinking that was the difference. Right now I have no shim in the variator & the belt is riding all the way down. The top performance belt seems to be a little shorter as it sits down in the rear pulley about a 1/4 inch. So maybe my factory belt is just worn too thin to get full travel. I do have the 15/50 gears so I felt like 50mph cruise was attainable. I am heavy 265lbs so it definitely knows I’m on there but I feel like I’m leaving 3-4mph with the lack of full travel.

The malossi drive face is 2mm larger than the standard drive face . Thta might make a difference I have always run matching pairs polini with polini malossi with malossi and stock with stock. The ramp angles are all slightly different . here is bretts measurements www.49ccscoot.com/manuals/CVTProject-FrontPulleyDimensions.pdf

Messed with it more today and couldn’t make it any better. With a brand new top performance belt I’m getting 6mm left on the variator. Swapped back to stock & getting 2. Not sure what gives. I went ahead & ordered a malossi drive face so hopefully I can get it sorted out.

Did some more tuning today. I got the new belt in but not the drive face. Best setup I have come up with so far is exactly what came with the variator. 7g rollers & white contra. I am running a torsion controller & .5mm shim in the variator with the new belt. It’s cruising at 50 on the flat & hitting 54-55 downhill. Without more gear or a better pipe I think that’s about all it’s going to do with me on it. I cut the marker line to 2.5mm so maybe the drive face will get me a little more? We shall see.

2.5 mm is pretty good . Cruising on the flats at 50 mph is a nice bump up from before . by my math you picked up 4 mph with adding the variator . You might pick up another mile or 2 when you get the malossi face.
Most likely because of the differnt ramp angle you will be able to run a notch lighter weight for revvier take off withe the same top end .
To get the best of both worlds accelaration and top end. I run the lightest weights that give me full belt travel .

Still haven’t got the drive face yet but have been looking at pipes. Is there anything to gain with the r07 over the yasuni r?

Yes I have seen that. Scooter swap shop said it’s in between the r & 16 but I can’t really find anything on it. Didn’t know if it was good for a few extra rpm or not? It’s a few buck more is all I know for sure.
