I like the comment on taking a picture first. I used to do that when messing with car engines. I pulled the top end off of a Toyota Camry one time due to blown head gasket, had the head shaved, new timing belt. It was my first head gasket project. Before pulling various small hoses off, I marked hoses and where they attached with different color finger nail polish for each hose. I was so glad that I had done that when putting everything back together. Burnout Bobby, from The Ruck Shop, said in a video to use Lock Tight, but the Yoshimura site does not mention using it. What do you guys think?

Blue locktite is your friend. Clean the metal 1st - works way better.

I just watched another video on the carb. Did you guys use the shim for the float bowl or just switch the jets?

Done. I installed the HONDA RUCKUS AIRBOX ELIMINATOR KIT WITH UNI FILTERS Type 2, which included jetting the carb and deleting the airbox. I also installed the Yoshimura exhaust. I started it for a minute to make sure that all is well and then cut it off. Loctite packaging says it cures in 24 hours, so tomorrow evening I will take it for a spin.

I googled this and it says that Loctite is at 75 percent strength in twenty minutes at 104 degrees. Can I ride it to the corner store for a soda. A little heat would help it cure faster, correct?

Remember, unless you go for a big bore kit, there is only so much intake and exhaust you need for a 49cc four stroke. In my experiences with smaller four stroke engines you can open up the breathing to a point where you will get a little more top end power at the expense of mid and low range performance. For racing applications this is good, but for usable street riding it is a compromise at best.
My last project was a SYM Mio 50 (kinda similar to the Ruckus)and I tuned it with some mild airbox mods and mild carb tuning. Spent some time tuning the variator and was happy with the results. I weigh 155-160 and top out around 42-43 mph under perfect conditions. But that little SYM will always hit 40 unless there is a hill or stiff headwind, and she is downright peppy from a 0 to 30ish. 100 mpg and 40+ mph and she is bulletproof, not afraid to run her WOT for long periods if needed.
Hey you guys, I will be relocated in ABQ by next week! No tags, no insurance and my little SYM MIo and I will be all over that city raising hell. I will make some ride reports with pictures after I get settled.

No BBK for the Ruckus. You’d have to case cut, and even then you’re limited to 66.6cc.

I rode the Ruckus to a Medical appointment this morning. There is no top end change, but it does feel stronger. I am happy with it. I got my second package in with Rolling Wrench EVI motor brain, NCY Variator Kit with Dr Pulley siding roller weights and NCY aluminum drive face. I have about 1,600 miles on the bike. So I think that I am going to order a new OEM belt. I have come across videos where it is said to replace belt as well when doing cvt, if you have over 1,500 miles.

Polini variator, 5.5 gram rollers or sliders, Yoshimura or Two Brothers exhaust. But if you’re going to GET a new exhaust, you should do an airbox delete with pod filter as well; no need for a bigger out without a bigger in. There are kits for it. Brandon and his crew at Scooter Swap Shop know what they’re doing - you can buy their carb with confidence. But you can also just upjet. MNNTBX, Steady Garage, and Mojo are quality shops as well. These are some of the people who helped built the tuning scene. There are others, and still more that left. There is a bit of a learning curve to making a Ruck go faster. But there’s a solid 15 years of work that’s been done for you. There’s a few folks from here from the old Total Ruckus site that shut down a few years ago. They know a thing or two about tuning. This document is what tuners consider THE primer on tuning scooters. It explains the relationships between the different systems. www.facebook.com/groups/1460440217591402/permalink/1842655042703249/I think we have it here as well. JB gave you good advice here. Polini/5.5 sliders/NCY CDI. The pre-packaged "kits" are all overpriced. The 85MJ supplied w/ the kit is too big. 80MJ max. You will not see much increase in performance w/ the NCY variator. My opinions only.

I had to go across town and handle an errand and decided to take the Ruckus. It actually cut off three times while idling at a stop light. Maybe, I need to adjust the carb?
So, I watched a video of the install of the Rolling Wrench EVI motor brain. I felt sure that I could properly install this and did. I took it out for a spin down the street and on the way back I hit 44 mph, my usual is 38/39. I ordered the OEM cvt belt. When that gets in, I will have variator, drive face and weights put in. Oddly, I did not cut off after the EVI install. I will drive it more tomorrow and see how it goes.

GET used to removing the carb, adjusting, re-installing, and testing. Everything goes quicker with practice. And keep in mind, these are scooters - easy to work on and potentially addictive. Great platform to learn from. I got a Ruckus, though had every intent in putting a bigger engine in it even before I bought it. The Ruckus is a GREAT, reliable bike, stock. Be ready to tinker as you dive in. Not difficult, and lots of fun if that's your thing.

I got the low boy seat kit in and installed it, yesterday. Dropping my center of gravity makes the handling feel much better. I also switched out the battery with a much lighter lithium one. My headlights are dim at idle. I am thinking about switching to high efficiency bulbs or maybe an entirely new light set if it is lighter that stock. ANy tire recomendations for lighter and faster?
