I have been thinking hard about my riding future. Is it really wise to continue on two wheels? The answer is easy, especially considering my loved ones. However my needs may win this one, I just cant stand the thought of not riding anymore. Definitely wear a protective vest to safeguard the lone kidney. Get some gear meant to protect your torso like Rob said at least. My sportbike friend wears an armored vest when it's hot and he's not doing anything too crazy that seems like it would be more effective than a jacket at torso protection. That's just based on my observation though. Might be worth some research. Ultimately, any protection on bikes is just lessening risk. Maybe try to do more in town cruising at lower speeds or choose rides on roads that you think are safer. Hell, buy a 4-stroke... that'll slow you down. I'm kidding. Don't do that. lol I've had similar thoughts due to diabetes and burning in my lower legs and feet and my toes are going numb and stuff doesn't heal the same anymore in general, but definitely different on my legs. A crash with lower extremity injuries seems like it would be bad. The problem is, I live to ride. I think people that know me well would immediately think of scoots/riding, because it really is my life. It's one of those things where it makes no sense, especially how I ride sometimes... but I honestly can't imagine life without it. I feel like I'd never be happy. I don't have a wife and kids and my condition is not as serious, but the point is I can relate to some degree and I imagine a whole lot of riders (especially aging riders) can relate, but we all have to weigh it out for ourselves. If all else fails, swap the van's steering wheel out for handlebars and cut the roof and doors off. 😁

I figured an update is in order. The Surgeon released me and I have been back to work for just over a week. I am doing really well. I actually feel better now than I have for the past couple years. Some of the issues I had been having have gotten much better since they removed the cancerous kidney. Function in my remaining kidney is not 100% Doctors are working to figure that out. I still have high blood pressure which is controlled. I am also pre diabetic and I must not become diabetic or else I am in deep trouble. Also my hernia still needs to be dealt with at some point.
I have an appointment with the Oncologist Monday, I expect I will be starting some type of immunotherapy to help prevent any more cancers from emerging. I also have more tests and a scan scheduled for October.
I have been spending some time at the shop, working on scoot stuff. I feel very fortunate to be feeling scooterish again.

Good news! Take care of yourself. Watch for side effects of meds etc.
Watch your diet etc to avoid diabetes, you definitely do not want diabetes. Cut out ALL the sugar sweets and carbs which is tough but can be done. At your age you won't die from artificial sweeteners etc something else will get you so ignore all that hype from the sugar producers and junk food makers. They only have their bank accounts in mind when they publish all those horrible scary studies and rumors.

Glad you’re better. It’s a long road I’m sure. I have Urologist appointment on the 15th, Colonoscopy on the 28th and hernia surgery September 1st pending on colonoscopy outcome. Fabulous 50’s here I am!

My appointment with Oncologist went well. No chemo or radiation unless future scans dictate otherwise. However I will be starting an immunotherapy called Keytruda, its an infusion every 3-6 weeks for 1 year. Hopefully I will not be in the 15% that have side effects while taking it.

LOL, I hear the side effect is prolonged 2 hour erections. You may not be able to tell it from your usual operation. They will be marketing it soon in a pill form called Extruda.

That is awesome news!
Just remember that keeping w healthy isn’t something we do just for ourselves. We do it for those who love us so they don’t have to spend the rest of our lives worrying and caring for us.

The urologist had his way with me. Said my prostate felt fine to him scheduled me for six months out for a revisit scheduled a another blood test for the way home to see if the first test was a fluke, took that test, and that next test was lower than the first one, but still elevated. First PSA test was 11.2 second is 8.7. Everything seems to work OK. Onto the next thing.

Met with the surgeon Tuesday to get back with the business of repairing a hernia. She said no can do while you are on Keytruda. So it will be at least another year before I can get the Hernia repaired. Thankfully it is not serious at this time.
Still waiting on financial aid to come through so I can start the Keytruda.

Back home again. Three polyps removed, five internal hemorrhoids removed and banded, several smaller external roids removed and cauterized. Then they packed my colon with expanding foam to hold stuff in place and absorb intestinal secretions. I’m kinda sore.

I plan do ride as soon as possible. Love the two wheel motion. Hernia surgery this Friday. Knocking it all out at once. 😊 😢 😴
