You know you can make carb gaskets out of cereal boxes! I have even used heavy construction paper like the kids use in school. You must be very careful with sealants around carbs. The squeeze out if too much is used can break off and clog passages.
Remember that dissimilar metals often used in electrical components can corrode with moisture. That silicone dielectric compound helps seal out moisture, salt, and Oxygen, another terribly corrosive material. That damn Aluminuminium crap is also terribly corrosive. I use tons of that anti-seize stuff also on fasteners that are threaded into that damn butter soft Aluminuminium crap as well as using stainless steel fasteners when I can. Can you tell I don't like Aluminum? I have a 24" long stick of 2" diameter 6061-T6 for a new bearing hub for my trike though. There are other types of anti-seize compounds for specific applications and for ease of use. Sticks of wax crayon types that are easy to keep in a tool box that are really good for spark plug threads because it does not smear around as easy onto the ceramic spark plug insulator. There are copper types that work better on motor couplings and shafts. There is even a specific type for stainless to stainless steel applications that gall without it. Electricians use a type for copper wire to aluminum connections. Keep a selection of types around and know when to use them. I keep a tool bag for mains electrical work with appropriate types in it as well as another tool bag for plumbing with appropriate materials and tools. It makes it easier to grab a bag and go fix something. I have one for the scoot also but it is getting covered with dust.

Instead FrankenMech I sent the new carb back and got another from elsewhere. I shall fit that myself and farm out the electrical problem to a mechanic. I will contact Owen and tell him he is paying for it and if it's going to have to wait I will dump it back at his. My time to admit defeat and leave it to the experts like I do my car now older.

He will shake his rattles and feathers, cast magic powders into the fire he has made by rubbing wires together, dance around, sing songs, and mumble incantations over it causing it to shiver, sputter, and rumble to life. -Probably not, but you may get lucky... LOL

LOL Add a camp fire, a few beers. And it sounds like a normal weekend at Milly's.

Is that the 'camp fire' one normally finds at a homeless encampment that resides in a steel drum throwing off noxious fumes?

Well the elecktrickery man went through everything and has come to the conclusion it's the cheap ass CDI from china. He did want to check my old one but I think the only time I not kept the old part and threw it away. A second hand one on order which is returnable if not working. New one can be anything from £270-470 that rules that out for a original one. We did get it to run without holding the starter but that was only after much trying and the engine was warm but it wouldn't rev for more than a few seconds but would tickover like it did once for me while engine was warm and that was on the new duff carb and now it has another carb. No restrictions in air filter and carb clean so hopefully CDI it is.

Is there something unique about the CDI that makes it so expensive? Does the CDI trigger with a timing pulse or points? There has got to be some dirt cheap common setup available out there. If a pulse from the flywheel triggers it a Frankenstein's monster like me would be tempted to hook up a DC powered plain Jane scooter CDI + coil and see if it would run with a donor 'heart' or some such points triggered CDI setup from a motorcycle or lawn mower for that matter. Once running, a small brass or aluminumiuminum nameplate could be made to identify the parts and affixed to the motor for future replacements as long as it wasn't labeled in Welsh... LOL

LOL A John Cleese Monty Python saying in Welsh for you to translate FrankenMech 🙂 mae fy llong hofran yn llawn llysywod. Yes a plain Jane CDI had crossed my mind mind but have just found a correct one for the model year second hand so if that doesn't work goodbye Suzuki to Owens house and back to eBay with the CDI.

Hmmm, there seem to be many translations. They all sound Welsh for ESFO&D and back to Owen to me.

Second hand CDI arrived, fitted and Owens Suzuki runs perfectly. The baine of my life can at last bugger off.
