I use the copper gasket maker for the intake area. Seals great and can be removed easily too. Good for high temps and gas too.

Some days, it feels like the whole world is against you. I am about done with the leak-down test. Pass or fail I may just move forward. tired of screwing with it.

If that's leaking and it still takes a while to drop pressure, you should be good to go.
I quit using expansion plugs and made a metal plate to bolt onto the exhaust flange. Can seal with a sealant or just rubber or gasket material. Takes a few minutes to make, but it saves time in the long run.

Question for the day: I have 2 identical looking flywheels except for the markings circled in red. One is 15* the other is 17* which one should I use for this build?

Never noticed degree markings on any of mine. That's pretty cool. 2 degrees isn't a huge difference, but I'd prob start with the 17 and switch to the 15 if you end up with any detonation issues with reasonable squish and compression figures.

Are the direction arrows below the "QJ" going in different directions??? Yes! But one is stamped upside down compared to the other one. The "trigger" on the flywheels are about 2* apart from each other. I wonder if they are made for different stators, or just different timing applications.

I figured out that the 15* FW & 7 coil stator came from an older Vento. But the 17* FW & 8 coil stator came with the cases I am using in this build. I read somewhere that the 8 coil stator is supposed to be a little better than the 7 coil, I think.

QOTD: After I installed the starter components I decided to test fit the HOCA variator. The ramp plate slides on the crank fairly easily, but the star washer and the kickstart pawl do not. They came off of the old vento. Should I just get new ones, or is there a trick to loosening them up a bit?

They are likely worn to the old crank splines,a small file can make them fit,but new stuff will fit much better!!

I noticed that on the old starter clutch in the picture all three screws were loose and moving side to side. So I decided to do what I didn't want to do, but really should have done a long time ago. I robbed all the parts off of that brand new crate short case I picked up for crazy cheap way back. I got the intake and reed block, starter, starter clutch and associated gears, variator, clutch and pulley, a Bando belt, and a CVT cover and bolt set. Now all I need to finish this project up, is a clutch shaft for the transmission, and a pipe...I think I may just sell the short cases with the transmission gears, and the crank if anyone is in need. I was saving the whole thing for a special project that I wanted to do, but I just don't have anywhere decent to work.

I got over 2 hours in getting the new starter clutch installed! I am beginning to think the crank splines were ground out of spec. The only thing that did not fight me all the way is the hoca variator ramp plate, and it would not even go on until I got the paint out of its grooves. I filed, and sanded on that starter clutch for at least 1 hour. My hands are still cramped up.

Tt want's to fight you all the way! It is strange nothing fits on the splines. You might be right it has not been ground to spec
